  9. SCDPlayer is Freely Distribuable, but is *NOT* Freeware. The package
  10. *MUST* be complete. No Commercial use must be done with written
  11. permission from his author (see COPYING).

  15. Why this stuff ?
  16. ----------------

  18. I have a CDROM drive, and I was tired to use big interfaces just for
  19. playing CD Audio. I found a shell tool called scsiutil, but the using it
  20. by command shell was very heavy. So a wednesday, I decided to make a
  21. GUI for it. It took me only 45 minutes for the GUI creation and the
  22. main loop. The main functions were here : Eject Stop Play, Track,
  23. Unit. SCDPlayer 1.0 was born. Very Small 9ko but a window in the
  24. workbench screen was always here. The next week-end, just a couple of
  25. days, I decided to make SCDPlayer as a commodity, with popup, exchange
  26. controls, tooltypes, all the commodities' stuffs. It was, for me, a
  27. exercice and a very good experience for programming. I look into
  28. sources of a screen blanker, made by my friend François Paulhiac for
  29. the handle. SCDPlayer 1.1 was born.

  32. Requirements
  33. ------------
  34. Only 2.0+ and SCSIutil (included into this package with authors'
  35. permissions)

  38. Installation
  39. ------------
  40. Copy SCSIutil into your command path such as sys:utilities, (I don't
  41. like software installation into c: directory !)
  42.  
  43. Copy SCDPlayer (by workbench) into sys:tools/commodities or into your
  44. sys:WBStartup

  47. Usage
  48. -----
  49.  
  50. From the workbench or from the cli:
  51.  
  52. Select the icon, and edit its information to set the tooltypes with
  53. your local configuration :
  54.  
  55. DEVICE=name    name of your device (default scsi.device)
  56.  
  57. UNIT=number    number of your CDROM unit (default 4)
  58.  
  59. CX_POPUP=YES|NO    You can choose if you want to popup the GUI at the
  60.         launch (default YES)
  61.  
  62. CX_PRIORITY=0    The task priority.
  63.  
  64. CX_POPKEY=keys    The keys to popup the GUI (default control alt s )
  65.  
  66. PUBSCREEN=name    The name of the public screen where SCDPlayer should
  67.         appear. If it can't, it will be opened on the
  68.         workbench screen. If the named public screen is opened
  69.         later, the GUI tries, first, to be opened on it. The
  70.         screen goes to front and the GUI is displayed.

  72. DONOTWAIT    Only if you put SCDPlayer in the WBStartup drawer.

  76. The GUI
  77. -------

  79. When it is diplayed, you can see two slider bars and three buttons.
  80. The Unit slider allows you to change the unit (if you have many CDROM
  81. drives on the same device). You can change by mouse the track to play
  82. by the Track slider. The track will play when the button will be
  83. released. Eject the CDROM disk, Stop it, or Play the current track
  84. displayed.

  86. You have 2 gadgets on the window : the Close hides the GUI but don't
  87. leave SCDPlayer. The Resize gadget changes the window into a window
  88. bar with the hotkey.

  90. You have also a menu with 3 items: About shows my address for sending
  91. your gifts (it's not a command, you do what you want, but I like
  92. receive gifts such as CDROM Demo or your contribution *8)
  93.  
  94. Hide (keyboard short-cut: Right Amiga H)     Hides the GUI.
  95. Quit (Right Amiga Q)                 Exit SCDPlayer.
  96.  
  97. If SCDPlayer is running, but hidden, the hotkey puts the public screen
  98. (if it exists) most front and displays the GUI, also if you try to
  99. launch another SCDPlayer, the first displays its GUI.

  101. If you prefer to use the keyboard, you have some useful keys :
  102.  
  103. Right or Left arrow    You change the current track without playing
  104. Up or Down    arrow    Change track with playing
  105.  
  106. HELP            Displays the info requester.
  107.  
  108. The GUI is font adaptative.
  109.  
  110. The Future
  111. ----------

  113. SCDPlayer will detect the hightest track.
  114. SCDPlayer will have Volume and Balance.
  115. SCDPlayer will be Scsiutil free.
  116. SCDPlayer will be able to jump to another public screen.
