- ============
-
- AMIGA ANIMATED SCREENSAVER & SYSTEM SOUND MANAGER
-
- Version 2.0 - June 1, 1994

-
-
- START
-
- After launching the program from Workbench, through the Shell or
- through the file "s:user-startup", press <Shift> and <F1> to open
- the Main Window or select "DesktopMAGIC" in the Tools menu of
- your Workbench.
-
- MAIN WINDOW
-
- You are now in the DesktopMAGIC Main Window. On the left is
- a list of the effects. On the right are the "Options"
- available for the effects. "Global", "Hotkey" and "Effect" are
- the three main gadgets in the "Options" field. Activating
- these gadgets allows you to adjust the DesktopMAGIC
- settings. Global is universal for all the Effects. "Hotkey"
- assigns certain key combinations to directly access the
- Main Window and the Screensaver effect. "Effect" lets you
- select an effect and alter the individual settings as you
- like.
-
- "Global"
-
- Timer
-
- Set the timer in Minutes:Seconds after which the effect
- shall self-activate. For example, if the timer is set at
- 2:30, two minutes and thirty seconds must pass where there
- has been no input from either the keyboard or the mouse
- before the screensaver is activated.
-
- Volume
-
- Set the audio volume on your speaker(s).
-
- Pri (Priority)
-
- Set the multi-tasking priority of DesktopMAGIC.
-
- Mouse
-
- This option is a mouse-accelerator and allows you to set
- the speed of the mouse movement.
-
- CPU Idle
-
- Set the percentage of CPU idle whereby DesktopMAGIC will
- not be activated.
-
- "Hotkey"
-
- Hotkey DesktopMAGIC
-
- SHIFT F1 is the default hotkey for accessing the Main
- Window.
-
- Hotkey Effect
-
- SHIFT F2 is the default hotkey to directly access the
- chosen effect.
-
- Corner
-
- A cycle gadget which activates the chosen effect when
- the mouse is placed in one of the four screen corners.
-
- "Effect"
-
- Effect settings - depending on the selected effect.
-
- AUDIO WINDOW
-
- The Audio window is your sound assignment center. It is
- accessed from the Main Window through the "Audio" gadget at
- the bottom of that window.
-
- Note: The "Audio" checkmark gadget in the Main Window must
- be switched on to activate the sounds.
-
- "Trigger" scrolling field
-
- The Trigger scrolling field is on the left. Here you can
- select which trigger shall be connected to which sound.
-
- There are five groups of sound triggers:
-
- Events
-
- Alert (urgent messages similar to Guru Meditations)
- ASLReq (ASL file requester comes up)
- AutoReq (Auto Requester like "Please insert disk...")
- Close Screen
- Close Window
- Disk (a sound every time you insert a disk)
- DisplayBeep (system beep, e.g. Ctrl-G)
- Left Button (left mouse button)
- Start DM (a sound upon launch of DesktopMAGIC)
- Open Screen
- Open Window
- Right Button (menu mouse button)
- User Timeout (double-click to set the allowed idle time)
-
- Keys
-
- Select one of the keys (or key groups) in the scrolling
- field.
-
- Keys that are not listed here (individual keys) can be
- assigned sounds by clicking the "N" gadget, and typing
- the key.
-
- Program
-
- By clicking on the file selector gadget, you can assign a
- sound to any program on your system that will be played
- upon launch of the program.
-
- Text
-
- Pressing the "N" gadget allows you to enter any text string
- that shall be assigned to sounds. Every time any application
- displays the text on the screen, the assigned sound is being
- played.
-
- Time
-
- Either select one of the given times or click "N" to
- enter a specific time.
-
- Double-click on any time, full hour, or quarter of an hour
- and a square symbol appears to the left of the time in the
- Trigger scrolling field. This signals the sound to play the
- same number of times as the hour or the quarter of an hour.
-
- Sound Priority Cycle Gadget
-
- Sometimes a sound gets triggered while another sound is
- still being played. Cycle through this gadget to change
- the sound priority.
-
- "Sounds" scrolling field
-
- The Sounds scrolling field is on the right. Here you can
- select which sound shall be connected to which trigger.
- Sounds and Triggers are selected together.
-
- The left cycle gadget allows you to switch a sound on and off.
- A "bell" symbol next to the trigger's name indicates a
- sound which is on.
-
- With the right cycle gadget, you decide if the sound is being
- permanently loaded in RAM, or if it will be loaded from Disk
- when triggered. To save memory, keep only short, frequently
- used sounds resident in RAM. An arrow symbol next to the
- trigger's name indicates that the sound is being loaded from
- disk, whereas a checkmark symbol indicates that the sound will
- automatically be loaded into RAM when the program is started.
