  8. This archive contains the software installation utility Installer 1.24,
  9. Installer.doc, a sample installer script (install-test), sample
  10. installer script project icon (install-test.info), and a free electronic
  11. Product License Agreement for distribution of Installer.

  13. For USERS OF INSTALLER
  14. ======================
  15. A simple "InstallInstaller" shell script with icon is provided.
  16. This will copy Installer to your SYS:Utilities directory if it does
  17. not find a newer version of Installer already there.
  18. NOTE: Installer itself does not have an icon.

  21. For APPLICATIONS USING INSTALLER
  22. ================================
  23. Commercial applications will probably want to ship Installer with
  24. their product.  For this purpose, a print/sign/send distribution
  25. license is included in this archive.  Shareware and freeware
  26. applications may also license and include Installer.  However,
  27. Installer is relatively large and it does not make sense to
  28. include it in dozens of different shareware/freeware archives.
  29. Instead, we hope that these shareware/freeware applications
  30. will be able to simply require their user to have Installer installed
  31. on their system in SYS:Utilities/, and will use SYS:Utilities/Installer
  32. as the default tool of their Installer script project icon.

  36. The "Installer" program is in the same drawer as the sample installer script.
  37. The Installer program itself does not have an icon but is called as the
  38. installer project script icon's Default Tool.  As provided, the icon's
  39. default tool is just "Installer" and this is correct for an installation
  40. script which is in the same directory as the Installer program, or for
  41. any 2.0 or higher installations where Installer is expected to be in
  42. a path searched by Workbench.  If plan to ship only an Installer script
  43. and icon, and wish it to also work under 1.3, then change the default
  44. tool to SYS:Utilities/Installer (1.3 Workbench does not search paths).

  46. Installer (version 1.24) and the install script project icon
  47. may be distributed by developers who have a Workbench License and
  48. an Installer Amendment, and also by developers who print out, complete,
  49. sign, and submit the included Installer.License agreement.

  51. This version of Installer is 1.3 compatible.  It does not require 2.0
  52. but therefore also does not have language localization.

  54. The complete and unmodified Installer Development archive, as provided
  55. by Commodore, may be freely redistributed via any means which
  56. preserves its copyrights.  The archive may not be sold for profit.
