CONTENTS OF
May/June 1994 FreshFish CD-ROM
This file contains some overview information about the contents of this CD,
followed by list of one-line descriptions for each "product" for which there
is a Product-Info file. Note that not all the material has a corresponding
product info file yet, so this list only describes a subset of what is
actually on this CD.
------------------------
STRUCTURE OF THIS CD-ROM
------------------------
The 650 Mb on this CD is divided into roughly three sections; (1) new
material, which includes newly released floppy disks as well as material
which does not appear in the floppy distribution, (2) useful utilities that
can be used directly off the CD if desired, thus saving 100 Mb or more of
hard disk space, and (3) older material from previously released floppy
disks or CD's.
The portion of the disk dedicated to new material that I've not previously
published on a CD or floppy disk is 241 Mb, broken down as follows:
11 Mb Archived (BBS ready) contents of floppy disks 976-1000.
22 Mb Unarchived (ready-to-run) contents of floppy disks 976-1000.
82 Mb Archived "new material" not included in floppy distribution.
126 Mb Unarchived "new material" not included in floppy distribution.
The portion of the disk dedicated to useful tools and other interesting
material that will be updated for each FreshFish CD is 383 Mb, broken down
as follows:
6 Mb Commodore includes, libs, and developer tools (V37-V40).
6 Mb Reviews of Amiga hardware, software, and other products.
13 Mb CD-ROM administration tools, documentation, etc.
33 Mb PasTeX source, fonts, and binaries.
42 Mb Miscellaneous useful tools, libraries, and examples.
46 Mb GNU binaries, libraries, and AmigaGuide info files.
86 Mb Archived (BBS ready) GNU source, binaries, libs & includes.
151 Mb Full GNU source code for supplied GNU executables.
The portion of the disk dedicated to old material is 26 Mb, broken down as
follows:
17 Mb Descriptions of contents of previous CD-ROM's & floppies.
9 Mb Archived (BBS ready) material from Mar/Apr FreshFish CD-ROM.
--------
GNU CODE
--------
Here are the current GNU distributions which are included in both source and
binary form. In most cases, they are the very latest distributions ftp'd
directly from the FSF machines and compiled with the version of gcc included
on this CD-ROM. I have personally compiled all of the GNU binaries supplied
on this CD-ROM, to verify that the compiler is solid and that the binaries
are in fact recreatable from the supplied source code.

path to make these utilities usable directly off the CD-ROM, once it is
mounted:

ONE-LINE DESCRIPTIONS
---------------------
This section is the output of running pitool to find all the product info
files on this CD-ROM and generate a one one discription for each product,
consisting of the name, version number, and the short description. This
list is then sorted and piped to "uniq" to discard the duplicates for
material that appears more than once (such as in both the ready-to-run and
the BBS-ready sections). The command which does this is:
pitool -b -f - -F "%-22.22N %8.8V %-40.40S\n" | sort | uniq
For further information about one of these products, use the KingFisher
or A-Kwic databases in the Tools directory.
