  7. OVERVIEW

  10. This is revision 1 of the April 1994 GoldFish (TM) CD-ROM, a 2 CD set
  11. containing the entire contents of the Fred Fish 1000 disk floppy library.
  12. This file contains important information that applies to this particular
  13. CD-ROM, and points out other important files that you should read.
  14.  
  15. For general information about the Amiga Library CD-ROM's, detailed informa-
  16. tion about the contents of this particular CD-ROM, and other important in-
  17. formation, read the various files in the "Information" directory.  For
  18. information about what has changed between the initial production run and
  19. revision 1, see the file "Changes" in the Information directory.

  21. Also sure to read the "LEGAL-NOTICE", "COPYRIGHT", "WARRANTY", and "SHARE-
  22. WARE" files, if you have not done so before.  If you plan to use this CD-
  23. ROM in a BBS or anonymous FTP environment, the "BBS/README" file on the
  24. first volume will be particularly useful to you.

  27. CONTENTS OVERVIEW

  30. The first volume of this 2 CD set contains floppy disks 1-1000 in archived
  31. form (5552 archives, 426 Mb), and disks 1-249 in unarchived form (210 Mb).
  32. For each archive there is a "product info" file that contains important
  33. information about the contents of the archive.  For further details about
  34. the structure of a product info file, see the file "Product-Infos" in the
  35. "Information" directory.  For details about how to use the product info
  36. files in a BBS/FTP environment, see the "BBS/README" file on the first
  37. volume.

  39. The second volume of this 2 CD set contains floppy disks 249-1000 in
  40. unarchived form (649 Mb).

  43. RECONSTRUCTING FLOPPY DISKS

  46. The first volume of this 2 CD set contains a program called "PufferFish",
  47. which can be used to recreate verified copies of any of the 1000 floppy
  48. disks in the floppy library, from the archives included on volume one.

  51. LOCATING MATERIAL
  52. -----------------

  54. Included on volume one are two different programs for finding specific
  55. material, or types of material, that you may be looking for.  The first
  56. program is "A-Kwic", which does keyword searches on a database that is
  57. built from the included product info files.  The second program is a new
  58. beta version of "KingFisher", which is included under the "KingFisher"
  59. directory.  This program also uses a database which is built from the
  60. included product info files.

  62. Eventually there will be databases that cover all of my previous CD-ROM's
  63. and the complete contents of the floppy library.  These will be included on
  64. a future CD-ROM.

  67. LHA ARCHIVES

  70. Many of the archives on this CD-ROM are in "lha format".  The shareware
  71. version of lha is included in the :c directory of this CD-ROM, so all you
  72. have to do to unpack an lha archive is use a command of the form:

  74.     lha -mraxe x archive.lha
  75.  
  76. Please consider registering with the lha author, Stefan Boberg, for the
  77. latest version of lha, so he can continue to support this fine program.

  83. I am always interested in hearing about things that might make my CD-ROM's
  84. more useful for users.  It is particularly important at this stage that I
  85. get feedback from users about problems that need fixing, or suggestions on
  86. how to make the CD-ROM more useful.
