Like Canadian irregulars, Rogers' Rangers adopted clothing and supplies which were well suited to the North American wilderness. A dark blue or green woollen hat provided some protection from the environment and also acted as camouflage. The distinctive green hunting shirt fringed along the shoulders, elbows and bottom, blended into the forest. Leggings and leather shoes completed the Ranger's exterior dress. In these photographs, it is possible to see his knapsack which held such supplies as eating utensils, extra ammunition tobacco and other personal effects. On a belt around his waist is a cartridge box containing pre-measured and packaged paper cartridges. The powder horn contains a supply of black powder for charging the Ranger's musket.
