This painting dedicated to the "Late Governor General", Sir John Colborne, shows some of the characteristic activities of thriving Quebec: the bulky timber raft with living quarters on it being guided downstream, the river steamboat and the ships from overseas, and, behind, the great military citadel looming on Cape Diamond, high above the warehouses of the Lower Town.
