Although produced by the same craftsman as the preceding one, this chest of drawers differs in its more rectil inear lower traverse, the very slight curve of the feet and the more stylized leaves of the tree of life. A full width drawer replaces the double drawers of the preceding specimen, and the date inscribed on the small middle drawer is "1852".
The delicacy and grace of this decoration, almost Japanese in feeling, is exceptional in mid nineteenth centruy Quebec when industrial manufacturing began to obliterate the human contact transmitted by objects.
