Open-air baptisms were once common in the Atlantic provinces, particularly among Baptist congregations. Many blacks belonged to the Baptist church and such outdoor baptisms still occur on occasion, though they are increasingly rare. This baptism took place at Lake Banook near Dartmouth Lake Church, established by Richard Preston in June 1844.
