  14.   Materials:

  16.   A variety of colorful socks, 24 pairs in all (to make
  17.   a doormat sized rug in this here picture.)

  19.   One pair of hands!

  21.   Instructions:

  23.   1)  Prepare socks.
  24.   Starting at the cuff, cut the socks into loops about 1" wide.
  25.   Discard heel and toe portions.
  26.  
  27.   2)  Finger knit.
  28.   (Note:  Finger knitting is worked one strip at a time; each strip
  29.   is attached to the previous strip as it is worked.  See Fig. 5.
  30.   (EXCEPT THERE IS NO FIGURE 5 HERE!  All we've got is page 1, with
  31.   fig. 1, and the rest of it I've had to figure out on my own!!!
  32.   But I'll tell you when we get to the "iffy" part. <g>  Anyway,
  33.   back to the instructions we DO have...)  Plan ahead with
  34.   different colored loops to form a pattern.)
  35.   Take one loop and place around the four fingers of your left
  36.   hand, twisting once between each finger (Fig. 1).  (And I won't
  37.   attempt to draw this, all I'll say is you loop around your pointy
  38.   finger, twist once, loop around your middle finger, twist back,
  39.   etc. until the last loop, the end, you just stick over your
  40.   pinky.  Like a figure 8 but more so...)
  41.   Take a second loop and place it on the same hand in the same
  42.   manner.

  44.   Okay, from here we're on our own...

  46.   What I did was follow the directions so far and then I had 2
  47.   loops around each finger, I felt tied in knots. <g>  With my
  48.   right hand, I pulled the bottom loops through the top loops and
  49.   off my fingers towards the back.  The ones on the end looked like
  50.   they were gonna fall off, and the first few hanging off the back,
  51.   I couldn't tell WHAT it looked like, it looked like a mess!!!
  52.   But by the time I'd done about 8 loops, it actually LOOKED like
  53.   knit!!!
