angel ornaments from lace
Materials are: wide, soft lace; embroidery floss or twine; miniature
stemmed roses or not stemmed; apple-shaped or round wooden beads; pre-strung
pearls (for weddings); 2 or 3 colors of paint.
Take a strip of lace, double it, with the ends overlapping in back, and tie
floss around the middle to form the wings. Take another strip of lace, same
length, doubled the same way, and scrunch the top together, then tie the
scrunch to the wings with the floss ends from the wings.
Then tie a rose to the scrunch with the same floss ends, and leave the floss
ends hanging for the angel's belt. (Or, you can glue a rose that has no stem
to the area just above the waist of the angel AFTER the head has been set in
place.)
With craft glue, glue a wooden apple or bead to the top of the scrunch.
Wait until this dries before going on!
Paint features on the bead. I used green for eyes and rose for mouth. With
some of the beads, I painted the bead ivory before putting on the features, to
give the face a paler look.
Cut six pearls from the strand of wedding pearls, glue them to the crown of
the angel's head, and hold in place until the glue sets a bit. Let dry fully.
When the angel is completely dry, take more floss or twine and make a loop
around the back of the angel, between the wings and the dress, around the back
of the head, then knot the top end. Hang.
