  1. Welcome to The Interactive Learning System.  The system includes 
  2. books, videos, tests, on-line systems, interactive multi-media 
  3. and other techniques to help you learn.  To find out more about 
  4. the new exciting ways to learn call 510-254-7283.  The Clarke Tests
  5. are part of the Complete On-Line CNE and CNA Training Program of 
  6. Cyber State University, 510-253-TREK.

  8. The Clarke Tests.  
  9. The Interactive Learning System.

  11. BEFORE YOU START:
  12.  
  13. This is a Microsoft Windows based program.  That runs off your hard
  14. drive.  Evaluate your remaining disk space and allow
  15. 4-8 MB for each test you install.  You may consider installing a few tests
  16. at a time.
  17.  
  18. INSTALLATION:
  19.  
  20. To install The Clarke Tests, insert the CD-ROM into the optical drive
  21. (E: for example).  
  22.  
  23. 1.      Begin Microsoft Windows and choose File-Run.
  24. 2.      Type "E:\CLARKE\SETUP" in the input window and click OK. (Note:     E: is CD-ROM)
  25. 3.      The Clarke Tests Setup will install the Delivery Module and ALL
  26.         tests.
  27. 4.      To save disk space, install selected tests only.
  28.  
  29. CHOOSING THE TESTS:
  30.  
  31. Open The Clarke Tests by double clicking on the icon.  A dialog box 
  32. will appear with the choice of tests in your current directory.  
  33. All the tests will be listed in the Tests portion of the screen.
  34.  
  35. To select a test, point to and highlight the desired test.  Click 
  36. the Open Button or double click on the test name.  You can also use 
  37. the keyboard to select the desired test.  Press the Tab key until 
  38. the Tests box is selected.  Use the up and down arrows to select 
  39. and highlight the desired test.  Press enter.
  40.  
  41. RECORDING YOUR NAME:
  42.  
  43. Once a test is selected you will be asked to enter your name.  
  44. The name entered will be used in the Tracker module to keep track 
  45. of your scores.  After you enter your name you will be presented 
  46. with the first question.
  47.  
  48. TAKING THE TEST:
  49.  
  50. Indicate your desired response by clicking on the appropriate 
  51. radio button or by entering text into the fill-in and matching 
  52. spaces provided.  The radio button is the white circle or square
  53. to the left of a selection.  Another question type is "hot spots".  
  54. These are answered by clicking the appropriate area in the graphic.  
  55.  
  56. Answer using the keyboard by pressing the first letter of the desired
  57. choice.  Press the tab to move to a fill-in response box.  If there are 
  58. multiple responses just tab to the next one.
  59.  
  60. You can leave the test by pressing the "X" in the corner of the
  61. question page or by pressing the Ctrl and Esc keys simultaneously. 
  62. Choose Clarke!! and end the task.
  63.  
  64. SCORING:
  65.  
  66. On the study tests you may change your answer at any time before 
  67. you click the Score it! button in the lower right hand corner of 
  68. the screen.  If you do not score each question after answering 
  69. you can go back and check your work. The form, performance, and 
  70. adaptive tests do not allow for this navigation.

  72. Pressing Enter will score the question if the Score It! button 
  73. is highlighted.

  75. NAVIGATION:
  76.  
  77. You may move around between the list of numbers at the bottom 
  78. of the screen.  Just click on the desired question number.
  79.  
  80. Once the Score It button has been pressed, you can not return to
  81. the Show Info or Show Help Screens.
  82.  
  83. There are also two arrow buttons on the bottom right hand corner of
  84. the screen which allow you to move forward and backward through The
  85. Clarke Tests.
  86.  
  87. SHOW HELP:
  88.  
  89. The Help button provides clues to help you in answering the 
  90. questions correctly.  When you have finished viewing the Clue
  91. press the Done button.
  92.  
  93. SHOW INFO:
  94.  
  95. The Info button provides a detailed answer for each question 
  96. including references.  This is the Interactive Answer. When you 
  97. have finished viewing the study material press the Done button.
  98.  
  99. ANALYZING THE TEST RESULTS:
  100.  
  101. Open the Tracker Module by double clicking the Tracker Icon in 
  102. the Windows Program manager.  You will see a blank screen with 
  103. menu choices across the top.  Choose the File menu.  Select Open.  
  104. A dialog box will appear.  The tcsans.mdb file is a database 
  105. containing all your test results.  Select the tcsans.mdb file 
  106. and select Open.  When you open the database you will see a 
  107. detailed summary report.
  108.  
  109. NOTES:
  110.  
  111.    1.  The interactive test screen will fill your monitor if 
  112.        the Windows driver is set to 640x480.  It will not fill the
  113.        screen if it is set to 800x600 or above.
  114.  
  115.    2.  Optimal color contrast occurs at 256 colors and above.
  116.  
  117.    3.  Remember you can use <Ctrl><Esc> and "End Task" to end the 
  118.        program.
  119.  
  120.    4.  If you are using a high-quality video driver (Viper VLB, for 
  121.        example), it may support a "large font" mode for high-quality 
  122.        text and graphics.  This can cause very unpredictable results 
  123.        with The Clarke Tests.  Please avoid using "large fonts" mode 
  124.        whenever possible. 
  125.
