  6.     A Senate staff report last week charged that Iraq's secret
  7. police systematically killed 200,000 to 300,000 Kurds and
  8. destroyed their cities, villages and agriculture in the late
  9. 1980s, while the U.S. was giving considerable aid to Iraq. The
  10. findings are backed by 27 tons of Iraqi documents seized by
  11. Kurdish groups during last year's uprising. Evidence of this
  12. genocide was available to the U.S. government by 1988, asserts
  13. Peter Galbraith, who wrote last week's report, "but it continued
  14. to support Saddam Hussein."
