  6.     In 1978 Bob Crane, the star of TV's Hogan's Heroes, was
  7. bludgeoned to death in his bed in Scottsdale, Ariz. The crime
  8. remained unsolved for 14 years, until investigators re-examined
  9. a thread of brain tissue found in a rental car. Last week they
  10. arrested John Henry Carpenter, a video-equipment salesman, and
  11. charged him with the murder, which he denies. Forensic
  12. scientists matched the tissue with a sample from Crane's bloody
  13. pillowcase. Complained Carpenter's attorney: "How the flesh
  14. sample was overlooked for 14 years is beyond me."
