- SHRED OF EVIDENCE
-
- In 1978 Bob Crane, the star of TV's Hogan's Heroes, was
- bludgeoned to death in his bed in Scottsdale, Ariz. The crime
- remained unsolved for 14 years, until investigators re-examined
- a thread of brain tissue found in a rental car. Last week they
- arrested John Henry Carpenter, a video-equipment salesman, and
- charged him with the murder, which he denies. Forensic
- scientists matched the tissue with a sample from Crane's bloody
- pillowcase. Complained Carpenter's attorney: "How the flesh
- sample was overlooked for 14 years is beyond me."
