  7.     Finally, a rapper who could make even Phyllis Schlafly
  8. pump up the volume. Twenty-eight-year-old TRQ, ne Steve Gooden,
  9. is a loud and proud pro-life Republican who packs his
  10. rhythm-backed poetry with patriotic punch. "I love this country,
  11. and anybody who doesn't should get out. I agree 100% with
  12. everything Dan Quayle says," boasts TRQ. Not the sort of
  13. position that wins fans in a musical world that rings with the
  14. radical views of Ice-Ts and Cubes. But sometimes anomaly can get
  15. you places. Without a record label to his name (an MCA deal fell
  16. through), TRQ has managed to find a captive audience for his
  17. righteous rap: the Republican Convention. The G.O.P. granted him
  18. a gig at a party-sponsored youth rally in Houston. Can we expect
  19. to see TRQ resurface as a political candidate someday? "No, I
  20. really don't think so," says the Washington native. "I enjoy
  21. being a voice crying in the wilderness."
