Maybe he was holding out for a Bud Light commercial. Or
maybe he hoped to make his modeling debut in Armani. In any
event, SADDAM HUSSEIN was apparently awfully unhappy about his
recent portrayal in a print ad for GovPx, a
financial-data-services firm. Created by the agency Slater Hanft
Martin, the ad pictures a close-up of the pudgy dictator with
copy that reads, "History has shown what happens when one source
controls all the information." Displeased, the Iraqi embassy in
Tokyo immediately issued a letter to the Nikkei Weekly, a
Japanese paper that had run the ad, complaining that Hussein's
depiction was "unfavorable." The embassy also asked whether or
not Slater had received permission from Saddam to use the shot,
assuming perhaps that when it comes to signing release forms,
busy despots are as available as Brooke Shields. Confused,
Slater creative director Adam Hanft commented, "If Saddam has
a more flattering angle, we will be glad to use it."
