  4. Mafia turncoats are responsible for the latest bust of bosses

  7.     It was the biggest roundup since 1984 and signaled an important
  8. new strategy after decades of fruitless efforts to outfight the
  9. Mafia conventionally. Using evidence supplied by the crime
  10. syndicate's own members, Italian police arrested 90 suspected
  11. members of the Sicilian Mob. Three members of Italy's
  12. Parliament and several small-town mayors were among those
  13. nabbed.

  15.     The first and most famous Mafia turncoat, Tommaso
  16. Buscetta, was brought back to Italy from the U.S.,where he has
  17. lived since his testimony in the 1986-87 "maxi-trial" helped
  18. convict 338 mafiosi. Buscetta told the national Anti-Mafia
  19. Commission what many Italians have long suspected: that the Cosa
  20. Nostra controls many of the country's politicians. He claimed
  21. that the current campaign of arrests had decimated the Mafia and
  22. persuaded many to break the code of silence known as omerta.
  23. National police chief Vincenzo Parisi promised that squealers
  24. will get a new home -- outside Italy.
