The standards mean that a head-
set from an American-made Huffy will
fit in another American-made Columbia,
but not in a French-made Peugeot. How- Chain
ever, the French Peugeot parts will 1- and 3-speeds.............1/2 x 1/8"
fit in another French made Jeunet. derailleur bikes...........1/2 x 3/32"

Axle Threading The standards for width are the same
Front wheels, American...5/16" x 24TPI regardless of diameter.
Front wheels, BMX, 26 x 1-3/8 EA3 does not fit EA1
Cruiser, Mountain......3/8" x 26TPI 26 x 1-3/8 for Schwinn is EA1 and
Rear wheels, coaster......3/8" x 24TPI 26 x 1-1/4
Rear wheels, derailleur...3/8" x 26TPI 26 x 1.75 interchanges w/ 26 x 2.125
Sturmey-Archer............non-standard 26 x 1.75 is not 26 x 1-3/4
Schwinn (pre-1970)........non-standard (1-3/4 tubes do fit 1.75)
