  1. This is my port of the 386BSD syslog facility.  I've been
  2. using it without a hitch for quite a while.  It uses a named
  3. pipe for sending local messages instead of a unix domain
  4. socket (which are not fully implemented in linux).

  6. The "selling point" of this version of syslog is that it
  7. does NOT require that you have a network, or even that the
  8. network code is compiled into the kernel.  Of course, it
  9. works fine with a network too.
