  2.           WHO GETS THE CREDIT?

  4.      Salvation does not depend on people.  God is not
  5. holding his breath to see what you are going to do.  God's
  6. program to redeem for Himself a people out of sinful
  7. humanity was His own idea and motivated by His own loving
  8. nature.
  9.  
  10.      Paul wrote, "It is because of him that you are in
  11. Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that
  12. is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption."
  13. (I Corinthians 1:30 NIV)

  15.      If you have already put your trust in Christ Jesus as
  16. your Savior and Lord, you can claim no "credit" for
  17. becoming a Christian.  It was by God's doing that your
  18. salvation came to you, His Word that worked in your heart,
  19. and His Spirit who enabled you to come to faith in Christ.
  20.  
  21.      It was God who worked redemption through the
  22. incarnation and crucifixion and resurrection of His Son,
  23. and none of the angels of heaven or the demons of hell
  24. understood until it was over (see I Cor. 2).  It is by
  25. God's doing that the holiness and righteousness of Christ
  26. are assigned to the believer.

  28.      Some Christians say boastfully, "Well, I'm the one who
  29. BELIEVED it. Yep, I had to put MY faith in Christ, or He
  30. couldn't have done it!"
  31.  
  32.      Some folks resist this message because they insist
  33. that God should recognize at least some of their own
  34. efforts, their own goodness, even their own response to the
  35. gospel, as part of the saving equation.  He will never do
  36. this.
  37.      "Salvation is of the Lord", and it is only and
  38. completely by God's grace, received through faith in the
  39. Lord Jesus Christ.  That way, only God gets the credit.

  41.      You could probably read through or listen to the
  42. letter to the Romans in 1 or 2 hours.  This is the key book
  43. in the Bible on the teaching we're talking about.
  44.      Even if it's hard on your pride, if you have not yet
  45. "received" Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, do it NOW.
