For those of us who wish to improve the
typographic quality output of Macintosh
software that supports auto-kerning,
a great new product is available from
EDCO Services, Inc.
The product is called "LetrTuck".
This fine program allows Mac users
to add/change/delete the kern pairs
in the System file screen fonts.
Kerning is font specific, i.e. Times
Roman can have different kern
values than Palatino, etc, etc.
Up to 2000 kern pairs can be defined
per style
The unit system used to enter
kern values is user-selectable from
a 10 to 2000 unit EM system. The
kern values will be translated into
the proper PostScript 1000-unit EM
system and reinstalled into the FOND
resource of the font being kerned.
The kern tables can be saved as text
files for backup purposes. As well, the
text files can be edited and then read
back into LetrTuck to further facilitate
the kerning process.
This is a GREAT product. It retails for
$149.00 and is available directly from:
EDCO Services, Inc.
12410 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., B-3
Tampa, Florida 33618
They can be reached at the following
toll-free number:
1-800-523-TYPE
I am not associated with EDCO
Services, Inc., but I do endorse their
product.
Typographically yours,
Andy Burns
