When you use Macintalk to generate phonemes from English text, it generally does a good job on the pronunciation (with only occasional flubs) but it doesnΓÇÖt do nearly as good a job on the intonation. This isnΓÇÖt surprising: Macintalk would have to have a sophisticated grasp of English grammar as well as a large vocabulary in order to make a stab at really good intonation. This is another reason why it is better to write phonetically than to rely on MacintalkΓÇÖs phoneme generator. Compare these (click on each box):
