  1. Hello All,
  2.     I want to take just a moment and explain what has happened to the
  3. file names here on the SIMTEL20.
  4.     When we first started up the PD:<MACINTOSH> area it was explained
  5. to us that we could use up to 39 character (don't faint) to name files.
  6.     This is all well and good for use here and on some HOSTS but a 
  7. large number of HOSTS and GATEWAYS do not like file names over 14 chars
  8. in length and the last part gets cut off. Since many files are broken in
  9. to small parts (yes parts are parts) to make mailing easier people were
  10. finding that they could FTP the file OK but when they got the files the
  11. GATEWAY or HOST had cut off the last part which showed the part number.
  12.     Because of this over sight on my part I am now renaming some 2000
  13. files to comform to the 14 char requirement. Please be patient with me
  14. and offer any suggestions you may have for speeding up this process.
