The user simply enters a list of foods and the quantity of each.
Several summary screens are sequential presented. If the entry is not
found MealMate will display a list of foods with similar spelling. When
prompted for a food name follow the style of the examples in the file
FOODNAME.TXT If you get a little frustrated with the format of the data
there is no reason why you should not copy down the existing entry and
use the append feature to add it to the database under whatever name you
like. At most prompts an underline is displayed which indicates the
longest entry that MealMate will accept at that point. In particular,
the food name is limited to 15 characters. For those of you not familiar
with the concept of food exchanges, within a given food group any two
foods having equal exchange value times quantity may be swapped with
little effect on nutrition. Medical Doctors and other senior medical
professionals will receive a number of useful utilities for program
maintenance and data base modification if a photocopy of their licence
is included. Any person who adds 75 or more VALID entries to the data
base and sends it to me ON DISK will be registered free and given the
utility "modify". Occasionally I receive a letter that I find so helpful
that I send the writer several disks full of "good stuff" and the source
code to MealMate. [press space bar to continue.]
