  11.                              Overview
  12.  
  13.      METZ Windows Lock is a security application for Microsoft Windows.
  14. With Lock running, you can prevent unauthorized use of your system
  15. yet allow applications to continue to run in the background.
  16. Lock can be configured so that your system cannot be rebooted from
  17. the keyboard.  While Lock prevents user input it does allow other
  18. applications to continue execution.
  19.      Should you desire additional security and password protection at
  20. the DOS system level, please consider the Harcom ACS product mentioned
  21. below.
  22.      Lock appears on your screen as an icon in the form of a key and a
  23. keyhole.  Lock can be activated by double clicking on the icon or
  24. selecting 'Lock' from it's system menu.  Lock is password driven and
  25. will not secure your system until a password has been entered and
  26. confirmed.  Once a password is established, Lock will continue to use
  27. that password until you change it.  The password is case sensitive.
  28.      Accept no imitations, even though LOCK.EXE is about 58K bytes,
  29. it uses very little memory while running and is very unobtrusive.
  30. Also, with METZTSR installed, you can type in a DOS Window without
  31. interruption.  No other products currently match this capability.

  33.      All Lock menu commands appear on it's system menu.

  35.      Lock has the following command line options which can be used
  36. individually or together:
  37.      /H or /h  - Hide the METZ Lock icon.
  38.      /L or /l  - Automatically lock or blank the system when run.

  41.      Ordering information is included in the file METZ.ORD or available
  42. by contacting METZ Software.  All orders will receive a disk containing
  43. the latest versions of our products.

  46.      This release is a demonstration version and as such is not to be
  47. sold.  Lock may only be distributed for free (or at cost) only as the
  48. group of files listed below under the File Descriptions.
  49. These files may not be modified in any way.
  50.      Use for purposes other than evaluation requires payment of the
  51. registration fee.  Once you register and receive a license number you are
  52. automatically allowed to upgrade to future releases.  It is important
  53. that you register this application to help insure continued support and
  54. development.  Our intention is to provide useful, user-friendly
  55. applications at a low cost, and your support helps make that possible.
  56.      All available functionality is enabled in this version to provide
  57. you the ability to effectively evaluate this application.

  96. New York, N.Y., June 27, 1990: A new professional PC software
  97. security system, now makes company wide security practical even when
  98. there are thousands of PCs to secure.  Called PC-Watchman ACS (Access
  99. Control Software), it is the software version of the PC-Watchman ST
  100. board level product.  It sells for only $59 with discounts for high
  101. volume customers.

  103. ACS was developed to satisfy the PC security needs of one of America's
  104. 10 largest corporations for an economical, across-the-board
  105. implementation involving thousands of PC's in use world-wide by
  106. operators with minimal PC experience.

  108. "While there are other PC security products on the market, none has
  109. met the low cost and professional standards required for company-wide
  110. installations", said Charles McClung, President of Harcom Security
  111. Products.  "In addition, ACS is compatible with all versions of
  112. Microsoft Windows, including the recently introduced version 3.0".

  114. Another unique and highly desirable advantage of ACS is its immunity
  115. to commercially available disk utility programs which can easily undo
  116. other software security products.  ACS provides User Access and
  117. Timeout controls plus absolute control of the computer startup
  118. process.  ACS also provides a record of security violations.  Because
  119. users often forget their passwords, ACS provides a user define dialog
  120. as an alternative user identification procedure.

  123. support required" which is essential for a large scale

  128. scale implementation of security systems on PC's:

  136. situations requiring the highest degree of security.

  155. *  This version is a true Windows 3.0 application.
  156. *  Lock supports Windows 3.0 bitmaps.  You can use Microsoft
  157.    Paintbrush to create bitmaps for Lock to display while the
  158.    screen is blanked.
  159. *  Advanced configuration options have been added which include
  160.    global hotkeys, hide lock icon, and lock system at a specific time.
  161.    The lock at specific time can be entered in a 24 hour format, but
  162.    Lock will convert it to a 12 hour format.

  177.    The configuration screen has been modified to reflect this
  178.    new feature.  Ctrl-Alt-Del suppression is supported under
  179.    all Windows 3.0 modes (Real, Standard, and Enhanced).
  180.    METZ Lock MUST be running in order to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del
  181.    under Windows.  The METZTSR.COM will allow you to prevent
  182.    rebooting from DOS.
  183. *  To prevent unauthorized modification of your configuration,
  184.    the password is required before accessing the configuration
  185.    dialog.
  186. *  This version is compatible with Almanac version 1.04 and greater.

  188.    Almanac update.

  191. *  Lock only allows you to run one copy at a time, but now it will
  192.    automatically lock the system if you try to run Lock a second
  193.    time and the lock option is turned on (either in the WIN.INI or
  194.    as the /l option in the command line).

  196.    has been fixed.

  199. *  Lock can now be configured as a Screen Saver only.  If you wish
  200.    to have Lock act as a screen saver without the password protection
  201.    feature, select "Screen Saver only mode" in the configuration
  202.    dialog.  Screen blanking will be automatically turned on as well.
  203. *  This version has an implementation which will prevent timeouts
  204.    while you are working in a DOS application under Windows.  In the
  205.    past, this application would timeout even if you were actively
  206.    typing away within a DOS Window.  Now the timeout will occur
  207.    only after you are inactive in any DOS Window as well.
  208.    Please read METZTSR.TXT and install the METZTSR.COM application
  209.    if you wish to prevent timeouts while you are working in a
  210.    DOS Window.  METZTSR has been tested on several different
  211.    platforms and we have not experienced any incompatibilities.
  212. *  You can now double click on the icon with either mouse button
  213.    to activate lock.
  214. *  When the Screen Blanking feature was turned off, the lock dialog
  215.    would always remain visible, and interfere with other screen
  216.    blankers.  The lock dialog will now disappear after 20 seconds,
  217.    and reappear whenever a key is pressed or the mouse is moved.

  278.   The 'Trap mouse' option will confine the mouse to the Lock dialog box
