Space
A Disk Space Monitor for Windows 3

About Space
-----------
Space is a little utility which I originally wrote for DESQview. It simply
opens a small window and displays the currently available space on each of
the drives that Space has been told to watch. At regular intervals the
disk space is rechecked. This version of Space has been completely rewritten
to run under Windows 3.0.
License
-------
Space may be freely copied and distributed. Continued use of Space after
a reasonable evaluation period requires a one time $5 registration fee.
Registration entitles you to the following:
- Use of Space on one computer at a time.
- Online support.
- Online access to upgrades for the life of the product.
Installing Space
----------------
To install Space, simply copy or unzip it to your hard drive. Then either:
A. Add it to the LOAD= or RUN= entries in WIN.INI. This way
you can tell at a glance if you've got enough room left
to download that new version of FractInt or if a runaway
program is eating up all your disk space.
B: Add it to a program group in the Program Manager. Then you
can just double-click Space's icon to see which partition
has enough room to install Borland's upgrade of the week.
C: None of the above. Space is just as easily run from the
File Run prompt of the Program and File Managers when you
need it.
Configuring Space
-----------------
By default, Space will monitor all local hard drives in your system and
will recheck the space every 10 seconds. These settings can be changed
by choosing the Config option on Space's system menu.
The first field in the Config dialog box is the drive list. This should
contain the drive letters for each disk you want to monitor in the order
you want them displayed. For example, to monitor drives C, D, and F you
would enter:
CDF
in the drive list field.
Floppy drives can be monitored as well as hard drives. If there is no disk
in the drive Space will report 0 bytes free on that drive.
You may also specify the update interval (in seconds). The interval field
should contain a number in the range 0-32767. If 0 is entered, Space will
not recheck the disk space until you double-click the mouse on Space's
window.
Space saves its configuration information in a file called NORDSOFT.INI
in your Windows directory.
Temporarily Adding or Deleting Drives
-------------------------------------
Drives can be added or deleted from the monitor list quickly by pressing
the Insert or Delete key while Space is active. Changes made this
way will not be saved to the configuration file.
Note to Developers
------------------
Space has been tested under the debugging kernel.
