Filefind
Release Notes
The following release notes describe the changes to Filefind
in the various versions of the program.
Version 3.30 Version 3.30 Version 3.30 January 11, 1991
1 Added a Within Within Within option that allows selecting files
that match the file spec and and and that have been
created or altered within the last 'n' days.
2 Fixed bugs in Read Only and Archive attribute
filtering.
Version 3.20 Version 3.20 Version 3.20 December 11, 1990
Version 3.20 provides enhanced file selection filtering
and optionally faster searches.
Functional Changes
1 File Attribute Filtering is available.
Desired attribute mathcing patterns may be
saved to the win.ini file.
2 The time required to build the directory tree
can be shortened by as much as 50% by using a
new option in the search dialog.
Presentation Changes
1 The search dialog has been enhanced to
include tree building from this dialog.
Attribute selection is included in this
dialog as well as the default dialog. The
Build Tree Item in the File command is
currently retained for compatability, but
will be removed in future versions.
Version 3.00 Version 3.00 Version 3.00
Version 3.00 is essentially a essentially a 1.7
version upgraded to true Windows 3.0 rather than
compatable to 3.0.
Version 1.70 Version 1.70 Version 1.70
October 1, 1990
Version 1.7 introduces a Windows 3.0 compatible version
as well as several enhancements.

___________________________________________________________________________
1 Filefind is MS Windows 3.0 compatible. It
may also be run under MS Windows 2.x.
2 The tree display allows the same multiple
selections as the file list. The directory
searches are performed on all selected
directories.
3 The FileSpec dialog has been changed to allow
setting the search specification without
actually invoking the search. This is useful
for when the initial search is for a filespec
in selected directories. The OK button has
been renamed Search and the new button is
named Set.
4 Copying the selection list or the entire file
list to the clipboard has been added. File
times, dates, etc. may also be optionally
copied to the clipboard.
5 Running Selections has been enhanced.
Filefind now checks the programs as it always
did, and if it can not run the file as a
program, looks for an associated program in
the [Extensions] section of the WIN.INI file.
If one is found, the associated program is
started and the selected file is passed to it
as a runtime parameter.
6. FileView, a file browser, is included.
FileView may be run stand alone or as a run
option within Filefind. Windows 2.x/3.x and
Windows 3.x versions are included.
Presentation Changes
1 The majority of the dialog boxes have been
changed from titled dialog boxes to bordered
dialog boxes. This was done to conform with
the application style guidelines. Similar
changes have been made to certain controls
(e.g. certain check boxes have been changed
to radio buttons to keep with the style
guidelines).
2 Menu Changes
- The Run and Action menus have been combined
into one Action menu. This was done mostly

because I dislike two line menus, was adding
the Edit menu and wanted to keep the menu on
a single line without forcing the horizontal
size to cover the whole screen.
- An Edit menu has been added to support the
Copy List and Copy Selections clipboard
functions.
3 View and Action menu items are grayed when
they can not be used rather than giving an
error message.
4 The default window size has been increased.
5 The destination path has been added to the
move and copy dialogs.
Fixes
1 Fixed crashes that occurred when exiting
under Windows 3.0 386 enhanced mode. (rel
beta.15)
2 The tab key now stops at the disk drive
scroll bars allowing the left and right
cursor keys to scroll the drive list.
3 Filefind is now fully functional from the
keyboard. The mouse is now optional.
4 The filespec edit box allows users to enter a
specification containing drives or paths.
Prior versions used whatever was entered in
the search. This usually resulted in the
file being found in all directories on the
disk. The search specification is now parsed
and everything but the filename and extension
is ignored.
5 Previously, the files listed by the first
search done would be in DOS order. The same
search performed a second time would match
the tree order. Now the first search also
matches the tree order.
6 The <End> key in scrolling has been fixed to
always show the last line in the scrolled
list. Left and right cursor keys have been

changed to scroll one character rather than a
full screen.
7 The print function occasionally printed blank
pages instead of the file.
Version 1.5 Version 1.5 Version 1.5
December, 1989
Version 1.5 includes a number of functional
enhancements, significant presentation changes, and
several fixes.
Functional Changes
1 Directory Listing Support
Filefind allows directories to be listed by
selecting the desired directory from the tree
display. All files or all files meeting the
current search specification may be listed.
2 Deselection Changes
Deselecting the file list by clicking in the
non-client area is no longer supported.
Files are now deselected by clicking on a
selected file.
3 Drive Change Dialogs
A separate drive only dialog allows you to
bring up a new tree or file list depending on
what mode Filefind is in.
4 New Startup Options
Filefind may now be started by initiating a
file search, a tree listing, or neither.
5 Separate Tree Displays
Tree displays may now be invoked without
going through a full file search.
6 Directory Deletions
Empty directories may be deleted.
Presentation Changes
1 Menu Changes
Filefind's menu has been totally revamped.
The file specification dialog may now be
invoked from the main menu.

___________________________________________________________________________
- The main menu contains a toggle to switch
between the directory tree display and the
file list display.
- The file path separation / concatenation is
now a toggle rather than two menu items.
- The sort and display menus have been combined
into one view menu.
- Most menu items that can not be invoked are
now grayed.
2 The about box now contains the total file
size in bytes of the files in the file list.
3 The directory now defaults to a sorted tree.
The tree may be optionally unsorted.
4 Highlighting in either display has been
changed. The highlight now switches the text
and background colors rather than inverting
the colors.
5 When Filefind can not find any files, a
message is displayed and Filefind switches to
the directory tree display.
Fixes
1 A print abort dialog has been added. This
was necessary for the print function to work
when the windows spooler has been turned off.
2 Selecting below the last file in a list
caused intermittent failures.
3 Several internal memory management errors
have been corrected.
Other Changes
1 Subsequent Search Efficiencies
Filefind no longer rebuilds the directory
tree when a subsequent search is requested.
This speeds up the new search considerably.
2 Move and Copy research.
The move and copy operations will cause
Filefind to re-search the disk based on the
current search specification.
3 Miscellaneous changes to the messages.
