Orpheus is a powerful 2-part system for hypertext authoring and electronic
publishing. The authoring program makes hypertext writing amazingly easy.
Link text, graphics, forms, scripts, other books, other programs, in an
advanced writer-friendly environment. The reading program is a commercial-
quality interface for end-users -- at a fraction of the cost of commercial
systems. Comes with clear tutorials, detailed context-sensitive help, a
host of built-in tools to help you create outstanding electronic documents.
Orpheus is distributed as shareware and costs $79. You are welcome
to evaluate Orpheus for up to 30 days, after which you are expected
to register the software if you wish to continue using it.

Packing List
Installing Orpheus:
===================
o If you received Orpheus on diskette, place the disk containing
INSTALL.EXE in your diskette drive, switch to that drive, then give
the following command at the DOS prompt:
INSTALL <Enter>
The Orpheus Install program will do the rest, safely placing the
Orpheus system wherever you want on your hard drive. Install does
*not* do anything to your autoexec.bat or config.sys files, nor to
any previous hypertext files if you are installing an upgrade.
o If you downloaded Orpheus from a BBS, just unzip all files into a
directory on your hard drive.
Getting Started:
================
The sample book "Introducing Orpheus" demonstrates some of what you can
accomplish with Orpheus. To read it with the Orpheus Reader, give the
following command at the DOS prompt:
OHREAD INTRO.HTX <Enter>
or just OHREAD <Enter>.
For a comprehensive introduction to Orpheus, including tutorials on how
to create hypertext and produce electronic books and magazines, see
MANUAL1.DOC. To start up the authoring program, give the following command
at the DOS prompt:
OH <Enter>
Explore the menus and online help. For an explanation of any menu item,
move the selection bar to that item and press <F1> -- or click on it with
the right mouse button. The tutorials in MANUAL1.DOC show you how to write
hypertext, how to import text from external files, how to use graphics,
and so on.
Support and Support BBS's:
==========================
For information on support BBS's for Orpheus (and how to get free updates),
see below. For an order form that will help me serve you better, see
REGISTER.DOC, which you can also fill out from within the demo book. For
someone who will be happy to hear your comments and suggestions, give me a
call at 819-566-6296, or write to me at the address given at the top of
this file. Or send e-mail to: rod.willmot@synapse.org.
I can also be reached through the Shareware conferences of Nanet, Ilink,
City2City, RelayNet, Fidonet, and U'NI-Net. Messages should be addressed
to Rod Willmot (spelled correctly!) and must NOT be marked private.
Look for new releases of Orpheus on Software Creations BBS. Renowned
as the "Home of the Authors", Software Creations is the official home
of Orpheus in the United States.

508-368-7036 (2400-14.4K V32/V32b Hayes)
Look for new and BETA releases of Orpheus on Synapse BBS. Synapse is
my gateway to the world, and the official home of Orpheus in Canada.
Synapse BBS, Gatineau QC. Daniel Coulombe, sysop.
819-561-4321 (14.4K - V32)

819-561-5268 (14.4K HST)
For free access to download Orpheus from Synapse, log on as ORPHEUS USER
and give the password VISITOR. Use the <L>ocate command to find the latest
files: "L ORPH*.*". Synapse is a Fido board (1:163/230) so you can FREQ
the latest version using the magic name ORPHEUS. On Synapse you can leave
messages for me at the main board or in conference 1022 (Orpheus Support).
Other boards:
Afterlife BBS, Silver Spring, MD. Todd Jacobs, sysop.
301-890-0686 (14.4K - V32/V42)
Exec-PC (WI) 414-789-4210
Aquila BBS (IL) 708-820-8805
Channel 1 (MA) 617-354-3230
For free access to download Orpheus from Afterlife BBS, follow the
procedure described above for Synapse. Afterlife is a Fido board
(1:109/182), and you can FREQ Orpheus from it too.
On all boards, use the Locate command "L ORPH*.*" to get a listing of
ORPH files, and look for the three with the highest version number.
On commercial services like Compuserve, look for files beginning "OH".
