*** BEGINNER DRILLS Menu 2 - HELP Facility Page 1
The Beginner Drills selection menu is where you start if you are not
familiar with the standard "QWERTY" style keyboard and wish to learn the
generally accepted methods of touch-typing using the HOME keys as a base. The
HOME keys on the QWERTY style keyboard are "asdf jkl;".
If you are already familiar with the keyboard you selected but want to
brush up on your typing skills, especially on the new standard, the IBM
Enhanced Keyboard, you will find these beginner drills helpful.
The technique used by PC-FASTYPE for teaching you how to touch-type using
any of these drills is RANDOM PROMPTING. That is, PC-FASTYPE will randomly
select a character from the list displayed in the text panel above the screen
keyboard and prompt you to type that key by changing the color of it on the
display and "clicking" it on and off. After you press the correct key, the
color will change back and then another key is selected randomly. This goes on
until you have successfully typed the number of characters indicated by the
"Drill is XX Characters" message displayed in the text panel.
Keystroke errors are indicated by a rude noise and a big red "X" shown
over the key you incorrectly pressed. The keyboard prompting continues until
you type the correct character.

[ F2 ] - Select the HOME Keys Only
The HOME Keys (asdf jkl;) are where the fingers of both hands are placed
when you start to type, and where each finger returns after a different letter
is typed. Pressing F2 will select the home keys and space bar. You will be
drilled on these keys only. All previous drill or exercise selections are
reset. You can also select just the HOME keys from the Progressive Letters
Selection List (See F3 below).
[ F3 ] - Add More Letters - Display the Progressive Letters Selection List
This function key will cause a menu display of all the alphabet letters
that you can add to the list of characters you are learning to type. The
numbered selection that's chosen will include all of the letters in the
previous entries of the list. You will use this function key to add more
letters to your typing vocabulary.
After you learn the HOME keys (Entry 1 in the list), the next letters you
should learn are e, i, and the ENTER key. Therefore you would select entry 2
which adds the letters e, i, and ENTER key to the list of HOME key letters and
the space bar.

Numbers are hard to learn. The selection process here is the same as for
Progressive Letters. Numbers that you select from the list will be added to
your drill list displayed in the text panel.

[ F6 ] - Exercise CAPITAL Letters Only
You will be drilled on CAPITAL Letters only; no lower case letters,
Numbers or symbols will be included. These drills will teach you accurate use
