The Dvorak pattern was named after a
member of a group of researchers
working for the US navy in the 1920's
or '30's. They found the very best
pattern discovered to date.
The experienced typist is 20 - 30
percent faster than a QWERTY typist
with similar experience, yet it is
just as easy to learn one pattern as
the other, if starting from scratch.
Typists working 8 hours with
QWERTY move their fingers 7-8 miles,
an inch at a time, but typists
using Dvorak will move only one mile.
Supposedly, accuracy improves,
but I have not found that to be true.
It is much smoother and more
relaxing.
