│ About TEDDY │
└─────────────────┘
TEDDY (short for ThermoDynamics) is an ideal gas model
simulator based on molecular dynamics. The simulated objects are
particles confined to a two dimensional container made up of
various types of walls. The particles playing the role of gas
molecules collide elastically with each other. The different
interactions modelled by the different walls are represented by
the corresponding rules for collision against the walls.
The program is useful as a visual aid and experimental tool
in various levels of education. Includes the following topics:
molecular motion, temperature, first and second laws of
thermodynamics, speed distribution, fluctuations, molecule
formation, relaxation phenomena.
The program displays the moving particles confined to a
rectangular vessel and two on-line diagrams simultaneously. There
are three types of particles: red, green and invisible ones. The
particle number and the mass of each particle type can be chosen
independently. There can be maximum 999 particles.
The on-line diagrams can show a variety of distribution
functions (e.g. pressure, density, temperature versus position,
velocity and energy) or time-evolution functions (e.g.
temperature, entropy). Time averaged distribution functions may
be displayed, as well.
You can design your own experiments (container size and
shape; type, number, mass, initial velocity and location of the
particles; type of the diagrams, etc) with a powerful menu system
and save them on disk for later use.

│ About TEDDY DEMO │
└──────────────────────┘
TEDDY DEMO contains all features of the full product except
the menu system. So you can only use the experiments pre-prepared
and saved to disk by the full TEDDY program. Find in the TEDDY
DEMO diskette some interesting experiments (*.MIC files), these
experiments are intended to demonstrate the capabilities of TEDDY.
However, TEDDY DEMO alone is a useful aid for classroom
demonstrations.
┌────────────────────────────┐
│ Configuration required │
└────────────────────────────┘
* IBM XT/AT or compatible computer
* 8087/80x87 coprocessor is recommended
* at least 320 kbyte main memory
* hard disk recommended
* CGA, EGA, VGA or Hercules Graphics Card
* DOS 3.1 or higher
* GRAFTABL.COM (DOS utility)
* for Hercules the MSHERC.COM (Microsoft C utility) or
a CGA emulator program
* MORE.COM (DOS utility)
┌────────────────────────────┐
│ Hard disc installation │
└────────────────────────────┘
If you have a hard disc (or RAM disc) installed in your
system you should copy TEDDY DEMO there to get faster operation.
Simply create a new directory on your hard disc and copy the
contents of the TEDDY DEMO disc into this directory, i.e. perform
the following steps:
C:
CD \
MD TEDDEMO
CD TEDDEMO
COPY A:\*.*
┌──────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Configure your system for TEDDY DEMO │
└──────────────────────────────────────────┘
TEDDY DEMO needs the GRAFTABL.COM and MORE.COM DOS utilities
in the DOS path.
If you don't know whether these utilities are in your current
DOS path or not, perform the following steps:
1. Type the command:
GRAFTABL
If the system answers "Bad command or file name", the
GRAFTABL.COM utility is NOT in your current DOS path.
2. Type:
MORE <NUL
If the system answers "Bad command or file name", the
MORE.COM utility is NOT in your current DOS path.
If one or both of the two required DOS utilities is not in
the path, you should modify the path. (Consult your DOS
guidebook.)
If you intend to run TEDDY DEMO on a Hercules Graphics Card
do one of the following:
* Before starting TEDDY DEMO load the MSHERC.COM program.
This is a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) utility
distributed as a part of the Microsoft C 5.1 software
package.
or
* Before starting TEDDY DEMO load a CGA emulator program.
There are a variety of such products in the market.
┌────────────────────────┐
│ Running TEDDY DEMO │
└────────────────────────┘
Enter the disc/directory where TEDDY DEMO is located and
type:
TEDDEMO
This offers you a list of the prepared experiments. You can
then run the selected experiment by pressing its label (A-H), get
a short help about the experiment by pressing X followed by the
experiment label or quit to DOS with the Q key.
