Martha's Vineyard makes a great destination from any eastern
Massachusetts airport. I haven't actually been there for several years,
so the airport is created from USGS maps and isn't accurate as to
building types, colors, etc. but the placements should be pretty correct.
In addition to the main Martha's Vineyard airport I've added Katama
Airpark in Edgartown. This is rather interesting in that it's a grass
field, something not shown many places in the FS world. The USGS maps
don't seem to show any buildings that are specifically associated with
the airstrip so the area around it is rather bare.
There's also a lot of scenery to see. Vineyard Haven and Edgartown have
a number of buildings added, clustered around the ferry docks which is
where most earth-bound people arrive on the island. You'll also see the
Woods Hole ferry inbound to Vineyard Haven, full of cars as usual.
As with most New England coastal scenery there are many lighthouses.
Look for lights at Gay Head, East and West Chop, and Cape Poge.
SD-12 provides ILS for RWY 24 on 108.70. You'll find your NAV1 radio
already tuned to the ILS for your return. Your COM radio is tuned to
the MVY ATIS for the weather report. NAV2 is tuned to the MVY VOR
(located at the airport) on 114.50.
Per FAA, be aware of hi-speed military jet traffic outbound from OTIS
ANBG on Cape Cod. Also, be aware that Nomans Land (the island south
of Gay Head) is a restricted area.
