  1. "Little-brother" Escort Mission

  3. American fighters on escort with the
  4. bomber streams were called several
  5. nicknames, such as, "little friends",
  6. and "little brothers", etc. 
  7.  
  8. On this mission the P-51B escorts are
  9. assigned to get the bombers through
  10. to their targets at Essen.
  11.  
  12.               Mission Orders
  13.  
  14. You are in command of a group of 4
  15. P51Bs on an escort mission for 6 B-17Gs
  16. heading for Essen. 
  17.  
  18. Your mission is simple: Protect the 
  19. bombers and get them through the enemy 
  20. fighter opposition so they can attack
  21. their target. 
  22.  
  23. Reports indicate that German fighters
  24. have been making use of their unguided
  25. rockets called "Pulkzerstoerer"
  26. or formation destroyer.
  27.  
  28. Your best bet is to get these fighters
  29. before they gete close enough to your
  30. bombers to fire their rockets.
  31.  
  32. A good position to be is right behind
  33. the bomber formation with your throttle
  34. set for about 40%. While flying in the
  35. slot behind the bombers, scan the sky
  36. for the enemy fighters that are sure
  37. to make an appearance sooner or later.
