DESCRIPTION: Eastern Long Island, from Montauk Point to Deer Park VOR.
This file works with NYAFRG.ZIP. Transition is smooth.
Most public airports are included east of DPK. Many
villages and suburbs are depicted. Inlets and islands were
added to the SD-12 base. Beaches run from Captree to Montauk
Beach. Highways and roads from Middle Country Road to
the William Floyd Parkway.
I was surprised no one has done the Long Island area yet.
Hopefully someone will put a large New York City area up
on CompuServe to complete southern New York. NYCITY.ZIP
is good but limited by size of file.
Port Jefferson smoke stacks are not shown in their actual
height, 348'. They only reach up 300'. With no other
structures nearby, they look strange that high!
Bridgehampton Race Circuit has 4 cars racing around it.
Bet on the blue cars to win! The road course has been
slowly trying to make a comeback, but major repairs are
still needed. Racing from May to September almost every
weekend should help fund that cause.
A blimp is flying over Fire Island. Typically between June
and August two or more airships can be seen flying in the
area. MET LIFE, FUJI, and Virgin Atlantic.
Montauk State Park makes a nice overflight destination with
a landing at Sky Portal airport.
Shoreham Nuclear Power plant is shown, however since it won't
ever actully be used...
Long Island Mac Arthur airport is moderately busy with
commercial and general aviation.
Francis S. Gabreski airport is named for the famous WWII
pilot. It handles all sorts of aircraft. A New York Air
National Guard unit is based there. Parachute jumping and
glider activity abound. Many Celebrities fly in to get to
their summer homes. Watch for the big dip in RY06/24!
Brookhaven Airport is busy with general aviation aircraft.
However it is uncontrolled so use caution as you enter the
pattern.
Peconic airport is included, however no landings may be made.
Navy police will greet you if you decide to land. Lots of
"Top Secret Stuff". Also the taxiways shown may be right, I
don't really know.
East Hampton has alot of summertime residents fly in. Length
of runways and noise restrictions keep out large aircraft.
There are a few smaller fields around, mostly unlit and very
little traffic. There is an airstrip on Shelter Island
called Westmoreland, however since I could find no data on
the size or direction of the runways I didn't include it.

Please, if you add on to any files contained within NYAISP.ZIP and then
post it on a board, give credit where due. As most scenery designers
know, many hours go into the finished product. Enjoy flying this area.
