Resupply! for Falcon 3.O.c
The program is pretty much self-explanatory. The only
reason to read this file is if you have any problems, you are
into trivial facts about the programs you use, or you like to
read. With that out of the way, here's the introduction:
Have you ever come *this close* to beating the damned Iraqis
when along comes a big mission that goes totally bust, and you
lose five planes when you shouldn't have lost any? You come home
on fumes to an empty victory, empty because you're flying the
squadron's final F-16 and you must get through at least twenty-
four hours before you get more (and usually it's only a measly
two or three more, at that)?
That's what Resupply! is about. You can now get those
planes back, get more fuel, or get more of any ordnance you need,
at any time you want it.
Copy "RESUPPLY.EXE" to your \Falcon3 directory. To use the
program, just make a note of the appropriate squadron leader's
name (which is probably your name) from inside Falcon 3.0, exit,
and type "Resupply" from the DOS prompt. The program will list
the available Squadrons. Select one based on its leader's name,
and follow the prompts from there.
You can type "Resupply /A" if you want to see the "About"
screen.
IF THE PROGRAM DOESN'T WORK:
1) Check that you are in the proper directory for the Falcon
3.0 files (normally C:\FALCON3) and that a copy of
"RESUPPLY.EXE" is also in this directory. Resupply! will not
chase down paths.
2) If it still doesn't work, bear in mind that the program was
written for Falcon version 3.O.c. There is no guarantee that
it will work with other versions (then again, there are no
guarantees it will work at all; it's totally free, and you
get what you pay for). If you're using another version of
Falcon, keep your eye on the boards for an upgraded version
of Resupply!, or send a *formatted* disk in a self-addressed
stamped envelope to the address below and you'll get a new
version should it ever be written.
3) If it doesn't work after that, I don't know what to tell you.
A Note About Maximums:
Most of the maximum limits imposed by Resupply! are
completely arbitrary and not imposed by Falcon 3.0. The 18 plane
limit itself is not absolute and sometimes Falcon will resupply
you above this. I only set the limits so you wouldn't cheat
--er--resupply beyond all reason.
Also, you should bear in mind that if you use the (M)aximize
all feature, Resupply! will actually reduce any super-large
quantities down to its maximums. You should be careful when you
do this.
A Note about Fuel:
The bytes that keep track of the amount of fuel in a Falcon
3.0 campaign do not follow the same simple integer rules as the
bytes that keep track of the other quantities. Rather than get
down to exact amounts, Resupply! only tracks tens of thousands of
gallons, and allows you to restore up to 25 of those (hence,
250,000 gallons). The figure given on the Resupply! screen is
actually the minimum amount of fuel you have remaining; your
actual level might be as much as 9,999 gallons greater.
The best way to find out how much fuel you actually have
remaining (and discover BEFORE a mission if it's time to
resupply) is to go to the "LOAD WEAPONS" screen, select "OTHER
STORES," and look at the number of external fuel tanks (either
300 gallon or 370 gallon). Multiply the number of tanks by their
size and you'll get a pretty good estimate of your situation.
A Note about Error-Checking:
Resupply! checks files for errors in a couple ways. If the
length of any SQUAD*.CAM file is different from what it expects
(9816 bytes), it rejects it. If a supply quantity in a file is
negative or out in left field, the file is rejected. It is this
error checking that causes the delay on startup--the program is
going through your files. You may have a bunch that fit the
SQUAD*.CAM mask, but Resupply! examines them one at a time to
make sure they're valid before it even talks to you.
Files that don't have a matching SQUAD*.SQU file, while not
rejected outright, will leave a blank space where their leader's
name should be.
A Note about Backup files:
Before Resupply! writes any changes to a SQUAD*.CAM file, it
makes a backup of that file named SQUAD*.BAK. Before it
overwrites one of these backup files, it will ask you to confirm
the overwrite. If you run into ant problems with the altered
SQUAD*.CAM file, simply rename the SQUAD*.BAK to the appropriate
name and restart Falcon.
Resupply! checks for available disk space before
writing the backup file; if there isn't at least 10K left,
you'll get a box asking if it's OK not to create a backup. Go
ahead, trust me.
Some other junk:
If you have any questions, bug reports, or suggestions, or
if you want an upgrade (see above), you can write to me at:

You can also try leaving me a message on Channel 1 BBS at
617-354-3137, or on any PCRelay board.
I've taken reasonable precautions to protect the integrity
of all files which Resupply! touches, but the program is free and
there are no guarantees, "either express or implied," concerning
its use. The user assumes all responsibilities.
