F-86 Saber and the Mig-15 Fagot Nov 21,92
created and copywrite by Vic Palermo CIS 70632,752
These aircraft are well know to aviation history buffs. The dogfights
over Mig Alley in Korea are well known and documented. The Mig-15 was an
exceptional aircraft for it's time. It possesed good acceleration and a
great climb rate. It suffered from poor visibility, poor aiming sight, and
a tendency to bleed off speed quickly at higher speeds.
The F-86 Sabre is legend. Although not as capable as the Mig -15 in some
respects, it proved to be superior for a number of reasons. Some are it's
better aiming system, stable gun platform, and its ability to maintain
energy in a fight.
In creating the reference sim for these aircraft, I tried to stick
to as close to the published flight parameters as possible. You will find
that the mig will accelerate faster and climb faster but will slow down
in high g turns. The sabre will hold turns better and will not slow down
as easily. Watch your speed on landing approaches, like to real thing, it
is easy to come in too hot and not be able to slow down fast enough... always
an emberassment as your squadron mates are watching on the ground.
I have included both multi player and non multiplayer versions of
both aircraft. This is so you can "dogfight" with a friend. The non
multiplayer versions of course, are the most detailed aircraft.
I have depicted the Mig 15 in the colours and markings used by
Soviet volunteers flying in Korea. The F-86 is decked out in 4 FIW colours,
specifically, Aircraft #51-2857 of the 334 FIS and flown by Capt. Manuel
Fernandez (14 Migs) and also used by Maj. James Jabara (15 Migs). I used
the illustration in the book Mig Alley by Larry Davis (Squadron/Signal Pubs).
