Course:Adobay Pass
Type:Original
Location:Central Sierra, Nevada
Background:Original
Objects:Original
Designer:Steve Holden
Date:July 17th,1993
Adobay Pass is located in the Central Sierra's of Nevada near Huntington
Lake which I show on the plot.A rugged and scenic area given to camper's
and hiker's and not nearly as publicized as neighboring Parks like Yosemite
or Sequoia-Kings.My source for objects and background was a Sunset Magazine
which had an outstanding article and views of the area.As of this writing
there was no golf course in the immediate area.
I spent countless hours on the objects and background trying to get the
look and feel I wanted. The background I used is actually the third complete
background I made for this course.
I'm very pleased with the layout. What I wanted to do was vary the play of
the course so that one hole didn't duplicate the next.I feel I was very
successful in this venture mixing the play and strategy for each hole. You'll
see a little of all my course's in Adobay if your familiar with my work.
I tried to capture the feeling of being out in the mountains, the feeling a
hiker or climber gets when their away from it all.The aesthetics of Adobay,
the blend of objects and background, and the play are both pleasing and
challenging. You'll have to make the shots, instead of strutting up to the tee
and coming out of your socks, and or ankelets(G).
I won't try and tell you how to play Adobay,to be quite frank, you the
players do a much better job on my course's than I do but I will mention a
few holes to better prepare you for the course.Hole #7 has a very tough
green.I feel every course should have at least one green you dread. One that
makes your palms sweat and makes you give a sigh of relief when your in the
cup.On Adobay it's hole #7.On hole #8 your approach is guarded by a lone
Birch that stands sentinel across the creek. It's very challenging and the
overall effect to the hole is changed.I hope you enjoy the effect as it's
more than fair to the player.Hole #15 is very tight off the tee and the 2nd
shot to the green is uphill slightly which makes this hole a sleeper.During
test play many balls found the creek when faced with a headwind.Hole #17 on
the approach you'll need an extra club to carry the hill,if it's against the
wind take two. That's it the rest is up to you.Good luck and I hope you enjoy
Adobay. As always, if you have any comments, good or bad, don't hesitate to
let me know but please be specific and help me out.
