"Fiend behind the fiend behind the fiend behind the
Fiend. Mastodon with mastery, monster with an ache.
At the tooth of the ego, the dead drunk judge;
Wheresoever Thou art our agony will find Thee
Enthroned on the darkest altar of our heartbreak
Perfect. Beast, brute, bastard, O dog, my God!"

.....Somebody is going to ask me why I included that here.....it just
somehow seemed rather appropriate after what I went thru in the process of
creating this scenery file. After getting hopelessly bogged down with this
project for weeks, battling a computer virus (Don't worry, I nuked it with
McAffee's CLEAN107), and running into Mongo problems with SEE4 behaving
badly (which resulted in about a day's work having to be erased and
redone), here it is: Madison, Wisconsin and surroundings, featuring
Madison/Dane County Regional and Janesville/Rock County Airport, with 3 ILS
Approaches and more Navaids than you'll know what to do with.
This is my second time using Laemming Wheeler's SEE04 Special Effects
compiler, and I'm rather pleased with the results. I hope you will be too.
I used SEE04 to create ATIS for Madison (124.65) and Janesville (128.25)
airports, as well as for various Night FX and a couple of special objects.
I've tried to exercise restraint in using SEE04, as I've seen some SEE4
files that make my 486DX/2-50 go Kerchunk, Kerchunk, Kerchunk as the frame
rate drops to 1 or 2 FPS. Bloody Ridiculous! Nice to look at in Slew mode,
but try to fly it! <AAAACCCCKKKKKKK!!>
I wanted to keep the file size under 50k in the hopes that a 386 will be
able to handle this. I have only tested this file on a 286/12 with a 512k
Video Card and a 486DX/2-50 with a 1 Meg Video Card. As you can guess, the
286 performed badly (2 FPS), even with all weather and dynamic scenery
switched off, and the 486 chewed it right up, no problemo. My guess is that
you'll need a 386/25 or better to run this file smoothly. That's just a
guess, I make no assurances of any kind whatsoever, and accept no liability
for anything. Runs fine on my Beast-Box.
I've included 3 Startup Modes here, including a stormy night IFR/ILS
Approach to MSN Rwy 36, complete with treacherous cross-winds and
turbulence....the sort of Summer weather we enjoy so much of here in the
Midwest. (Right John?) Hope your ILS/cross-wind landing technique is good!
I set the range on this file for 45nm in the hopes of minimizing scenery
switching conflicts with: Michael Reilly's excellent WISKEMR.SC1 scenery
file of the Milwaukee area; Dave Blake's equally excellent scenery of the
Rockford, Il area; and Rod Conklin's top-shelf scenery of Oshkosh, Wi. and
surroundings. **This file was, in fact, written to fill in the area between
these scenery files.** (I also plan to "do" Fond Du Lac airport for the
purpose of merging it with Rod Conklin's Oshkosh scenery)
You will most likely have some difficulties with Dave Blake's Rockford
scenery, up around Janesville/Rock Co. Arpt., which Dave included in his
file. If you are flying North out of Rockford, after you get beyond the
city itself, turn off your scenery auto-switching and manually load my
scenery. My rendition of Janesville is better, and includes the Rwy 04 ILS
Approach too. (No offense Dave. Nice job on Rockford!)
I covered the SD-9 lines representing I-90, I-94, and Wisconsin Routes 51
and 151, with highways. At night, these will light up. I covered I-90 from
Beloit, Wi. up north past Madison where I-94 joins it, and way up NW to
about Tomah, Wi, where the I-90/94 split occurs again. I did this mostly
because I plan, at some point, to do some scenery of LaCrosse, Wi. I-94
runs East of Madison right to the outskirts of Milwaukee to join up with
Michael Reilly's WISKEMR.SC1 scenery. Wis. Rt.51 splits from I-90/94 north
of Madison, running right past and beyond Portage. I ran it beyond just in
case someone else decides to write some scenery for the Stevens Point/
Wausau area. (Not me...) Wisconsin Rt.151 winds its way southwest out of
Madison past Mineral Point, eventually ending up in Dubuque, Ia., which I
eventually plan to write some scenery for also. Going the other way, it
goes NE from Madison, ending (in real life) at Fond Du Lac. I didn't bother
running it all the way. Maybe I'll do that in the revision. Just past where
Rt.151 runs out, you'll find Juneau/Dodge Co. Arpt. Beyond that, to the NE,
is Fond Du Lac.
All runways, unless otherwise noted, are Asphalt or Concrete. I made all
hard-surface runways the same color, Dark Grey. Deal with it.

Special Note to SimAir pilots: If you've got the time, taxi on over to the
SimAir Midwest Charter hangars at MSN for a cold one. Who knows, you might
catch me and Andy Birkhead or Commander Rob sitting around on a layover,
swapping vicious lies with the Air National Guard pukes next door. Always
room for one more story-teller in the group!
***************************************************************************
There *WILL* be a revision of this file, hopefully before or right around
Christmas. I'm still learning about ASD & SEE4, and have a LOT left to
learn. Like the man said, "The biggest room in the world is the room for
improvement." Yowsah!
Xtra-Special Yahooz' go out to:
Laemming Wheeler -- for creating SEE04. Awesome stuff! Now could you maybe
write some REAL Dox for it? And hey, what about SEE5?
John Sandow, Nels Anderson, Clarke Davis and all the other FS4 Junkies,
SimAir pilots, mutants and malcontents who can regularly be found in the
RELAYNET FLIGHTSIM Conference. Thanx to them all for fielding many scenery
design questions and offering suggestions of a helpful nature.
James Williams -- Sysop of Jim's Fly-Inn BBS (312-881-1142), for giving me
access to tons of the coolest FS4/ASD/SEE4/AAF files. Great Board. THANX!!
Mallard Software -- Publishers of the A-#1 best FS4 software ever made,
and all of the smaller companies/groups/authors they represent. You guys
are a Class Act of the highest sort. (WE ARE NOT WORTHY! WE ARE NOT
WORTHY!) MALLARD UBER ALLES!!!!!! <BG>
Wentworth "Drunken Limey Scum" Giddy -- Thanx! for the Beta of FS5.
Most Excellent. Check Six!
Jonathon Brandmier -- For penning the infamous "Der Milwaukee Polka"
ThubLogic -- Thanx for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. <DIE!DIE!DIE!> You Waterheads
are living proof that little worth speaking of ever came out of Champaign.
(With the exception of Bonnie Blair -- Whatta' Babe! SCHWING!!!)
