INTRODUCTION
This patch disk updates Operation: Fighting Tiger to
version 3.01.1. The update includes a new installation
program, the necessary patch files, a backup
installation batch file and a batch file for creating a
boot disk for Packard Bell computers (as well as a few
other, auxiliary files).
This update can only be used if you have already
purchased Operation: Fighting Tiger. It will update
Falcon 3.01 (dated 8/21/92) to Falcon 3.01.1 (dated
10/2/92). If you purchased the later version of
Operation: Fighting Tiger, you do not need to perform
the update since that version already contains the
changes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATING OPERATION: FIGHTING TIGER
There are two ways of carrying out this update.
METHOD ONE:
If you have already installed Operation: Fighting
Tiger, you can update the game by copying the files
PATCH.EXE and PATCH.RTP to your Falcon 3.0/Operation:
Fighting Tiger directory and then typing "PATCH" while
in this directory.
METHOD TWO:
You can also use the new install program included with
this patch to both install Operation: Fighting Tiger
(Falcon 3.01) and update the game to version 3.01.1.
In this case, the patch files must be on the same size
floppy disk as your Operation: Fighting Tiger program
disks. (If you have downloaded the patch from a BBS,
you must copy the installation and patch files to the
correct size floppy disk before continuing.) To
install, insert the patch disk into a floppy drive,
type "A:" or "B:" to change the directory to your patch
disk and then type "INSTALL".
If Operation: Fighting Tiger is not already installed,
you will be prompted to insert your Operation: Fighting
Tiger program disks. (It is always prudent to make
backup copies of your original disks before doing
anything else.) Once it has finished converting Falcon
3.0 to Falcon 3.01, the installer will then update the
game to version 3.01.1.
If Operation: Fighting Tiger is already installed, the
install program will just skip the first step and
proceed immediately with the update.
ALTERNATE INSTALLATION:
As a backup method of installing Operation: Fighting
Tiger, the batch file INSTOFT.BAT is also included
with this update. This batch file will only install
Operation: Fighting Tiger. It will not perform the
update. To use the batch file, copy INSTOFT.BAT to your
Falcon 3.0 directory, type "INSTOFT" and follow the
onscreen instructions. You will be prompted to insert
your Operation: Fighting Tiger program disks. Use
METHOD ONE, above, to complete the update.
PACKARD BELL COMPUTERS
Running Operation: Fighting Tiger on a Packard Bell
computer may require a change in your CONFIG.SYS file
to avoid an EMS conflict between the video BIOS and the
EMS page frame at address E000. It is recommended that
the EMS page frame address be set to D000. The
following line, for example, will set the EMS page
frame address properly for the EMM386 memory manager:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 1024 RAM FRAME=D000
If you are not sure how to do this for your expanded
memory manager, consult your DOS and expanded memory
manager manuals for instructions. Our Customer Support
representatives are also available Monday-Friday, 9am-
5pm Pacific time at our Customer Support number.
If you are using DOS 5.0 and the EMM386 expanded memory
manager, you can use the batch file BOOTPACK.BAT to
create a special boot disk for your Packard Bell
computer. Booting your system with this disk will
configure your computer to avoid the address conflict.
The BOOTPACK.BAT file is compressed inside the patch
file. When you run the patch, BOOTPACK.BAT will be
expanded and copied to your Falcon 3.0 directory. You
will also need a formatted disk that fits your drive A
to use as a boot disk. Simply type "BOOTPACK" from your
Falcon 3.0 directory and then follow the onscreen
instructions.
To use the boot disk, insert the disk into drive A and
reboot (or turn on) your computer before playing Falcon
3.0.
NOTE: If you want to use your mouse with this boot disk
carry out the following steps:
1.Edit the boot disk AUTOEXEC.BAT file with any text
editor and remove the letters "REM" from the line:
REM LOADHIGH MOUSE.
2. Copy your mouse driver (MOUSE.COM) from your hard
drive to the boot disk.
CHANGES TO OPERATION: FIGHTING TIGER
1. Some Operation: Fighting Tiger owners have had
difficulty with the installation program included with
the original release. A new installation program is
included with this update which will both install the
game from your Operation: Fighting Tiger program disks
(preferably backup copies) and update version 3.01 to
version 3.01.1. (See the UPDATING OPERATION: FIGHTING
TIGER section above, which describes the new
installation.)
2. On some systems, Operation: Fighting Tiger would
crash before even reaching the title screen. The update
will correct this problem for all systems except some
Packard Bell systems. Packard Bell owners might have to
either use a special boot disk or alter their
CONFIG.SYS file to run Operation: Fighting Tiger. (See
the above section on Packard Bell computers.)
3. The requirements for successfully completing an
Escort mission have been eased. Now you are only
responsible for getting the escorted bombers, strike or
cargo aircraft to their destination.
4. The flight characteristics for heavy aircraft, like
the B-52 and C-130, have been improved. They will fly
more realistically and will no longer crash on landing
(assuming, of course, that they are undamaged before
attempting to land).
5. Buildings in Red Flag can now be damaged.
6. The MiG-31, the Mirage 2000, the Jaguar and the UMF
can now be assigned to enemy flights in Red Flag.
7. PC speaker sounds have been fixed.
8. When playing Allied Comms. in the Kurile Islands
theater, ships will now appear on all connected
machines, not just the Caller.
9. In the Kurile Islands theater, you will no longer be
assigned missions which require you to violate the
Rules of Engagement. (You can still be assigned
missions which are merely difficult to accomplish under
ROE.)
10. The Supply Status display of the campaign Report
Screen now lists the AIM-9R and the AGM-84.
11. The Padlock Status Window will now display "Alamo"
instead of "Aphid" when an active-radar-guided missile
is padlocked.
MANUAL ADDENDUM
Pg. 7 -- Parts List
If you have purchased the 3.5" version of Operation:
Fighting Tiger, you should find one 1.44MB disk and one
720K disk (not two 1.44MB disks) in the package.
In addition, you should also find a Disk Exchange
Coupon for exchanging 5.25" disks for 3.5" disks or
vice versa.
Pg. 9 -- More weather
The overcast cloud layer will appear when the weather
report or forecast lists the weather as "OVERCAST" not
"CLOUDY." (Remember that weather reporting is not an
exact science.)
Pg. 75 -- Rules of Engagement: Violations and consequences
Violating the rules of engagement may make subsequent
missions more difficult because the enemy will become
more aggressive.
Page 82 -- Escort strike or bombers
The requirements for this mission should read:
* Provide both fighter escort and SEAD support to
ensure that the strike aircraft reach their
destination.
* You must fly within 10 nm of the target waypoint.
* At least one F-16 must survive the mission.
Pg. 83 -- Ground Strike
The mission title "Ground Strike" is missing from the
top of the page.
Pg. 98 -- Using the Harpoon missile and SEA radar
Ship targets can be identified in two ways:
1. The radar return of a surface vessel is displayed on
the REO as a green blip with one of three intensities:
bright green, medium-bright green or dim green. The
intensity of the return relates to the displacement of
the ship. Refer to the Reference Section of the
Operation: Fighting Tiger manual to determine the
displacement of the assigned target ship.
2. View the formation of the enemy ships using the Map
zoom function on the Mission Planning screens. The
formation will not change significantly during the
mission.
The position of friendly ships is marked on the
campaign maps with a blue icon. Enemy ships are marked
with red icons. On missions, you will never find a
friendly ship anywhere near an enemy task force, so
identifying ships as friendly or hostile should not be
a problem.
Pg. 118 -- SA-2 Guideline
The SA-4 will not appear in Operation: Fighting Tiger.
Instead, the SA-2 has been deployed in the permanent
SAM sites. Check the Report Screen in the game for the
performance specifications of the SA-2.
