XWSAV Version 1.0
XWSAV is a utility for viewing and editing X Wing pilot files. This
version of the program allows you to update your records concerning
missions completed, skill level, rank, and next TOD mission to be flown.
This program is distributed as freeware, for the benefit of those
fighting against Imperial domination. Imperials are expected to pay 1000
Imperial Credits to the Bank of Alderaan. May the Force be with you.
Invocation:
XWSAV Pilot-file [/ASSUME]
The pilot file is a .PLT file, whose filename is the same as the pilot
being edited. If the extension is not specified, then .PLT is assumed.
The /ASSUME switch tells the program to assume that you are already in
the proper text mode (80x25) at the program start. You should only use
this switch if the program mysteriously crashes when you start it.
Display:
XWSAV first displays a summary of the pilot information (the pilot
data display screen). This screen is divided into three parts: the pilot
information section, the maze section, and the mission section.
You may also select two other screens to examine: the historical
mission screen and the TOD mission screen. The historical mission screen
displays your current high score in the mission and whether or not you
have ever completed the mission (earned the battle patch). The TOS mission
screen displays your current score for the mission, whther or not you have
completed the mission in the tour, and whether or not it is available as
an historical mission.
Information that's displayed in white characters cannot be modified.
Information that's displayed in yellow can be modified by bringing the
cursor to that location. Information that's displayed in green is at the
present cursor location. Information that's displayed in red cannot be
directly modified, but is affected by another field that can be modified.
Keys:
The following keys are used to navigate the various screens.
<Page Up> Go to the previous series on the mission screens
<Page Down> Go to the next series on the mission screen
The historical and TOD mission screens display the information
for a single series (group of historical missions, or onr tour). The
<Page Up> and <Page Down> keys allow you to change the current series.
<Up Arrow> Go to previous field/previous line
<Down Arrow> Go to next field/next line
On the pilot screen, the arrows move from one field to the next,
but on the mission screens they move from one line to the next.
<Left Arrow> Go to previous field
<Right Arrow> Go to the next field
On the pilot screen, the left and right arrows act the same as
the up and down arrows. On the TOD mission, they switch you between
the two fields.
<+> Increment present field
<-> Decrement present field
<*> Increment the present field by 10
</> Decrement the present field by 10
Use these keys to modify the data in a field. On the historical
mission screen, they work as an on/off switch. On the TOD mission
screen, they either not only change the present line, but all lines
up (if +) or down (if -) from the current line.
<F2> Switch to the historical mission screen
<F3> Switch to the TOD mission screen
Use these keys from the pilot screen to switch to one of the
mission screens.
<F10> Exit without saving
Leave XWSAV without saving your changes.
<ESC> Return to pilot screen/Exit and Save
If you are in a mission screen, you are returned to the pilot
screen. If you are already on the pilot screen, you exit the program.
Pilot Data Screen Fields:
Pilot The name of the pilot (which is the same as the filename).
Rank Your current rank: Cadet, Flight Officer, Lieutenant,
Captain, Commander, or General.
TOD Points Current number of TOD points earned.
Exp Points Current number of experience points. This affects your
rating: Novice or Rookie (less than 16384), Officer
(16384 to 32767), Veteran (32768 to 49151), Ace (49152
to 65534), or Top Ace (65535). Note that this field is
incremented in groups of 1000, not 1.
Captured If this flag is set to Yes, the pilot is captured.
Killed If this flag is set to Yes, the pilot is dead. The game
will not recognize a dead pilot, so your only recourse
is to revive it using this program (or start a new pilot).
Maze Level The highest level you have completed in the maze. This
field sets the Flight Badge field whenever it reaches
Level 8 or greater.
Maze HS This is the highest score you have earned in the maze
for the give craft.
Last Hist This is the last historical mission you flew.
Next TOD This is really two fields: your active TOD and your
next mission in that TOD. If you quickly want to select
a mission, you can modify this field. Don't visit the
TOD desk before flying this mission, or you risk losing
the setting.
Historical Mission Fields:
Note that this program recognized up to six series of historical
missions, even though the game currently only includes three. If
additional historical missions are released at some future date, these
slots should be able to support them (though the correct titles would not
appear on the screen, of course).
High Score This is the highest score you have earned in this
particular historical mission.
Patch Earned This field indicates whether or not you have ever
successfully completed the mission (and thus earned
the appropriate battle patch).
TOD Mission Fields:
Note that this program recognizes up to eight tours of duty, even
though the game currently only includes three. If additional tours are
released at some future date, these slots should be able to support them
(though the correct titles would not appear on the screen, of course).
High Score This is the highest score you have earned in this
particular TOD mission.
Completed This indicates whether or not you have successfully
completed the mission.
Historical This indicates whether or not the mission is available
as an historical mission. This is probably the best way
to sneak ahead and try some of the later missions (such
as 3/14, the trench run) without disturbing your actual
campaign.
