***** GOLF MANAGER *****
INTRODUCTION
------------
Golf Manager is a utility to manage course files used with the Mean-18 (tm)
program from Accolade (tm). Mean-18 is a trademark of Accolade, and Accolade
is a trademark of Microsmiths, Inc., neither of which are in any way assoc-
iated with the Golf Manager program or its author.
Golf Manager allows hard disk users to store and use up to 100 different
course files. The course files are kept in an archived (compressed) format,
and expanded only when used by Mean-18. This saves disk space, and allows
convenient use of a large number of course files with Mean-18. As an added
feature, it will also read and produce reports from the Mean-18 Hall of
Fame files.
You may use Golf Manager FREE of charge. However, you may not sell or
distribute for profit without written consent from the author, S. Welliver.
REQUIREMENTS
------------
To use Golf Manager, you must have:
a) A hard disk
b) The Mean-18 (tm) program
c) Archiving and Un-Archiving utilities
(Golf manager has been tested with ARC (tm) from System Enhancement
Associates, and PKARC (tm) / PKXARC (tm) / PKPAK (tm) / PKUNPAK (tm)
from PKWARE, Inc. It should work with any other archive program that
has a similar command structure to these programs.)
d) Several Mean-18 (tm) course files
INSTALLATION
------------
Place the GM.EXE file in the same directory with your GOLF.EXE and course
(*.M18) files. Type "GM" to start the program.
The first time the program starts, it will ask for the path and name of your
archive utilities. Be sure to enter the complete drive and path to each
utility. You must also specify the file extension used by your archive
programs.
Every time you start Golf Manager, if the directory contains any un-archived
course files you will be asked if you wish to archive them. You should
answer "Y", causing all of the course files (*.M18) to be converted into
archive (*.ARC) files. (note: Golf Manager keeps each course in a separate
archive file, not all in one big archive)
USING GOLF MANAGER
------------------
The Main Menu contains (6) options:
If you select "P" for "Play", you will be presented with a list of all the
archived course files. When you select one of these files, Golf Manager
will un-arc the file, then start Mean-18. When you exit Mean-18, Golf
Manager will delete the un-archived course file (the archived version is
still retained).
If you select "C" for "Change Course Design", you will be presented with a
list of all the archived course files. When you select one of these files,
Golf Manager will un-arc the file, then start the Mean-18 Course Architect
program. When you exit Course Architect, Golf Manager will ask you you want
to archive the course, thus updating the current archived version. If you
respond "N", the archive will not be updated, effectively cancelling the
changes you have made.
Selecting "D" for "Delete Saved Games" will present a list of all archived
courses, with indications of which ones have saved games present. When you
select one of the courses, the saved game will be deleted.
Option "H" will allow reporting from the Mean-18 Hall of Fame files. You can
request to view an individual hall of fame, or you can create a composite
report by extracting an individual's performance history from all files. The
composite report can be displayed on your screen, or placed into a file. If
you wish a printed report, choose the "File" option and specify "PRN" as the
file name.
Option "S" allows you to change the name of the archiving utilities you are
using on your system. You must specify the full path and file name of your
utilities. Additional "options" or "switches" may also be specified, to
allow further flexibility when using different archiving programs. To work
correctly, your archive utility must support the "-m" (move) switch to move
files into an archive, and the "-u" (update) switch to update files already
in an archive. These options are automatically used by Golf Manager; if you
wish to specify additional options you may enter them in the spaces provided.
Selecting option "X" exits from Golf Manager.
