Fishook Island Rod Conklin 76525, 3706
This is a purely imaginary island off west of the florida keys.
There may be a fishook Island in the keys, but this island is a total
fabrication. Its location is approximately 20 miles west of KEY WEST,
Florida.
Files in this Package:
FISHOOK.ORG - Original Scenery File without SEE03 enhancements.
(To edit and use, rename to a .sc1 file).
FISHOOK.SC1 - The SEE-Enhanced scenery file.
FISHOOK.DY1 - Dynamic Scenery file.
FISHOOK.MOD - Mod file starting in the air, North of the Island.
I. Tour of the Island:
Nothing much. An airstrip and a three-star hotel.
II. Navigation/Radio
ADF Frequency 625 (located on the south end of the island).
Communications is on multicom (Frequency 122.90). The hotel
will give you landing instructions. (see landing notes).
III. Landing Notes.
Landings on the Island can be tricky, so here is a general walk
thru:
1. Fly northwest of the Island and turn to a heading of 164 degrees
and descend to 900 feet to enter the downwind leg of the pattern.
2. Begin gradual descent continuing on 164 course until you see
rocky point on your left. (a bunch of rocks on the southern
tip of the island).
3. Turn to 075 degrees and descend to 600 feet for the base leg
4. Continue on 075 until you see the vasi of the runway under
your left wing then turn to a heading of 345 for final.
5. The runway may be hidden behind the hills, so you will have
to maintain enough altitude to see it.
6. Watch for the hills on final (MSA 250) and the trees before
the runway. (Runway altitude is 22 feet).
7. The dynamic scenery file contains a Cessna that takes off,
flies the pattern, and lands.
IV. Scenery Notes:
1. Unfortunately, SEE03 doesn't do mountains, so the night effects
are not quite as realistic.
2. The airstrip is not lighted at night and is surrounded by trees
(I wanted a challange -- Try landing in a 15 knot crosswind).
3. The Hills are mostly on the east side of the Island and are alittle
hard to see on final approach, so if you crash unexpectedly, it
means you clipped the top of one.
4. It is also possible to clip a tree when taxiing around the strip.
(I finally made a reasonably good landing after 3 trys and promptly
taxied into a tree).
5. The dyanmic scenery file contains a Cessna which takes off and
lands, you can follow it down to final approach and landing.
6. There is a dock by the hotel to accomodate sea planes. (AVGAS is
available by the yellow pumps on the dock and by the airstip.
7. This scenery doesn't require SD-7 scenery disk.
