  3. Hello, and thank you for downloading MIDIART.  This file contains information
  4. on the computer hardware requirements of MIDIART, installing the shareware
  5. version of MIDIART, what benefits you will obtain by ordering a registered
  6. version of the program, and information on how to order your registered version.

  9. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:

  11.    MIDIART is a very CPU and graphics intensive program.  It requires a 386
  12.    or 486 PC running Microsoft Windows 3.1.  An accelerated graphics video
  13.    card is required for 386 model computers.  To get the full effect of
  14.    MIDIART, the author recommends that it run on a 486DX PC running at 33 Mhz
  15.    or higher with an accelerated graphics video card.

  19. INSTALLING MIDIART:

  21.    After unzipping the MIDIART zip file, you will want to run the SETUP.EXE
  22.    program contained in the zip file.  This program is a small Microsoft
  23.    Windows program that creates a MIDIART Program Manager group along with
  24.    program and help file icons.  To run setup, select (File) and (Run) from
  25.    the Windows Program Manager main menu.  Then type "\XXX\SETUP.EXE" in
  26.    the command line edit box.  XXX should be the name of the directory in
  27.    which you unzipped the MIDIART zip file.  After running the setup
  28.    program, you should select the MIDIART Help Icon.  Read through this
  29.    on-line help document to learn how to use MIDIART.

  36.    The file 'QUICK.REF' contains a listing of all the command keys and 
  37.    function keys MIDIART will respond to as it is playing music and creating
  38.    graphics.  Printing this file out will be useful when you start using
  39.    MIDIART for the first time.  For a more detailed description of each
  40.    function key, refer to the on-line help file in Windows.

  44. REGISTRATION BENEFITS:

  46.    MIDIART is being distributed as shareware.  This form of software
  47.    distribution allows you to try out the software for thirty days free
  48.    of charge.   If you find this program interesting and fun, and find
  49.    that you are using MIDIART after the thirty day period, you must
  50.    register the software for a small fee.  When you register, you will
  51.    receive additional features and will be eligible for future software
  52.    upgrades.  If you do not register, you will be violating federal
  53.    copyright law.

  57.    If you register MIDIART today, you will receive the following added
  58.    benefits:

  60.       1) A registered copy of the MIDIART program.  This program does not
  61.          contain the dialog window that appears before the configuration
  62.      dialog.  It also contains two additional Image Generators.

  64.       2) Announcements of future software upgrades and new Image
  65.          Generators that will be developed for MIDIART.  Registered users
  66.      will be eligible for discounts on these future products.  Keep in
  67.      mind that this is the first version of MIDIART and the program will
  68.      continue to be enhanced.  I hope to have other people develop Image
  69.      Generators for MIDIART, and these new Image Generators will be made
  70.      available only to registered users.

  72.       3) A Windows screen saver version of MIDIART.  This program
  73.          can be installed as a screen saver in the Windows desktop control.
  74.      When your computer is left idle for a specified time, MIDIART will
  75.      begin performing its magic.

  77.       4) Technical support on CompuServe.  You can send questions via
  78.          CompuServe mail to the author of MIDIART.

  80.       5) Documentation describing how to create your own MIDIART
  81.          Image Generators.  (You must have knowledge of computer programming).
  82.      MIDIART invokes Image Generators via a Microsoft Windows DLL (Dynamic
  83.      Link Library).  This documentation will describe how to build this
  84.      DLL so that you can create your own MIDIART images.  The possiblities
  85.      are endless.  You will also receive information on the MIDIART Image
  86.      Contest.  Prizes will be awarded for the best Image Generators
  87.      developed by contestants.

  93.    To register MIDIART, select the MIDIART Help Icon from the Windows Program
  94.    Manager or click on the HELP button from within MIDIART.  Next, select the
  95.    Registration Order Form topic from within the Help table of contents.
  96.    Finally, select (File) and (Print Topic) from the main menu.  This will
  97.    print out an order form.  Fill out the order form and send a check or money
  98.    order (U.S. only) for $12.95 to the address printed on the order form.

  120.    I am currently developing a new version of MIDIART that I call MIDIART
  121.    Live.  Instead of playing standard MIDI files, MIDIART Live will respond
  122.    to MIDI based electronic instruments such as keyboards, electronic drums
  123.    and MIDI guitars.  This software could be used in a live performance
  124.    setting.  MIDIART graphics would be created in real time on big screen
  125.    monitors while a band or single musician performs music live.  If you
  126.    are a performing musician and are interested in the possiblities of
