  17. To overcome the problem with Windows' 32-bit file access, we have implemented
  18. a true Windows-based File System Change notifier module. Currently, this
  19. module is being tested. After this test phase we will start distributing it
  20. to you!

  22. The problem with Windows' 32-bit file access is that the monitoring of file
  23. I/O operations under MS-Windows by means of TBAV-for-Windows, or monitoring
  24. file I/O operations in a DOS box by means of the TbScanX program will not
  25. work correctly if you have 32 bit file access enabled.

  27. For now, we advise you to disable 32 bit file access. You can do this by 
  28. means of the Control Panel application (in the 386-enhanced section), or by 
  29. starting MS-Windows with the following commandline:

  33. Note that this problem only occurs when using the File I/O monitor in 
  34. combination with 32-bit file access. TBAV-for-Windows will trap the file 
  35. I/O activity of all Windows-based applications, or DOS applications with 
  36. 16-bit file access.

  39. 2) Translating the TBAV for Windows language file
  40. -------------------------------------------------
  41. a) Those of you who want to translate the TBAV for Windows language file
  42.    should edit the file by making using of NotePad or some other
  43.    MS-Windows-based wordprocessor. TBAV for Windows uses the Windows
  44.    'SYSTEM' font for displaying text messages. The character mapping of
  45.    this font does NOT equal the standard ASCII character set (which is
  46.    exploited in DOS). The Windows character set can be viewed by means of
  47.    the 'CharMap' application, which is shipped with your Windows
  48.    distribution. The international characters in DOS and Windows are
  49.    listed below.
  50. b) The detailed virus information (for example, the 'Anti-Mit' virus
  51.    displays "707 bytes; Activates December 1st, trashing the HD.")
  52.    cannot be translated; this information is always displayed in English.
  53.    The detailed virus information is stored in the virus signature file,
  54.    which is updated too often to let translators make changes to the virus
  55.    information text.

  77. 3) Using TBAV-for-Windows with Windows NT or Windows95
  78. ------------------------------------------------------
  79. At this point of time, the Windows NT and Windows95 operating systems are
  80. NOT supported by TBAV-for-Windows. Since these operating systems should be
  81. downwards compatible, TBAV-for-Windows will probably work just fine. However, 
  82. we do not garantuee the correct working of TBAV-for-Windows under these
  83. operating systems yet. The ThunderBYTE development team is working hard to 
  84. adapt TBAV-for-Windows so that it can be used with Windows NT and Windows95.
