MacFont is a Windows TrueType font with Mac character set encoding. There is a similar shareware font on the Mac side called IBMKlone, which has IBM extended character set encoding, but there is nothing comparable on the Windows side.
I developed this font in order to be able to print a list of Mac type and creator codes, which included not only characters encoded in different positions, but also characters that don't exist in the Windows ANSI set such as the sigma, pi symbols and ligatures.
Many translation programs will convert the CR/LF to a CR and map the Mac characters to their Windows counterparts, but none of them, of course, can map the codes that don't exist in Windows. That's why I developed MacFont--to use when you need a quick translation of a Mac text file that relies heavily on extended characters.
You'll quickly discover many uses for MacFont. Perhaps you need to edit a Mac document on the PC that you'll eventually have to move back to the Mac. Maybe you're writing a book about the Mac on a Windows word processing program (could happen!). You could also create a Windows <> Mac character set table.
Usage Notes
Many word processing programs, such as Microsoft Word utilize the Windows screen font for display in draft mode, this of course will display the ANSI character set. Word also has a viewing option which allows the display of non-printing characters. When using MacFont this option should not be used since the character used to designate a space is ANSI character 183, a centered dot, but will be an uppercase sigma in the Mac character, which will render the text unreadable. Also confusing will be the lowercase delta that will replace the ╢.
Notes on Distribution.
This font may be used and distributed freely, but please include this text file with the TTF. I've long since given up on asking for shareware fees since they pay for about one lunch a week.
