  15. office or home, providing a total networking solution to small
  16. businesses, telecommuters, and employees in the field.  You need only
  17. a 14.4 Kbps modem, a standard analog phone line, and your NetManage
  18. Internet Chameleon software.

  49.         AlterDial Terms and Conditions

  51. (1)     UUNET exercises no control whatsoever over the content of the
  52. information passing through AlterDial. UUNET makes no warranties of any
  53. kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing.
  54. UUNET also disclaims any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a
  55. particular purpose. UUNET will not be responsible for any damage you
  56. suffer. This includes loss of data resulting from delays,
  57. nondeliveries, misdeliveries, or service interruptions caused by its
  58. own negligence or your errors or omissions. Use of any information
  59. obtained via AlterDial is at your own risk. UUNET specifically denies
  60. any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained
  61. through its services.

  63. (2)     AlterDial may only be used for lawful purposes. Transmission of
  64. any material in violation of any US or state regulation is prohibited.
  65. This includes, but is not limited to:  copyrighted material, material
  66. legally judged to be threatening or obscene, or material protected by
  67. trade secret. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless UUNET from any
  68. claims resulting from your use of the service which damages you or
  69. another party.

  71. (3)     Any access to other networks connected to AlterDial must comply
  72. with the rules appropriate for that other network. This specifically,
  73. but not exclusively, includes NSFNET. Use of AlterDial itself may be
  74. for any lawful purpose. Use of AlterDial for lawful commercial purposes
  75. is both permitted and encouraged. Connectivity is provided for your
  76. organization only. Resale or use of the connection by another
  77. organization is prohibited.
  78.  
  79. (4)     Payment is due 30 days after date of invoice. Accounts are in
  80. default if payment is not received within 30 days after date of
  81. invoice. If your payment is returned to us unpaid you are immediately
  82. in default and subject to a returned check charge of $25 from us.
  83. Accounts unpaid 60 days after date of invoice may have their service
  84. interrupted. Such interruption does not relieve you from the obligation
  85. to pay the monthly charge. Only a written request to terminate your
  86. service relieves you of your obligation to pay the monthly account
  87. charge. Accounts in default are subject to a late payment charge of $50
  88. and an interest charge of 1.5% per month on the outstanding balance. If
  89. your state law does not allow an interest rate of 1.5% per month, the
  90. maximum allowable rate for your state will be charged. If you default,
  91. you agree to pay UUNET its reasonable expenses, including attorney and
  92. collection agency fees, incurred in enforcing its rights under these
  93. Terms and Conditions.

  95. (5)     Service is invoiced monthly and may be cancelled in writing at
  96. any time with no penalty. Prices are for delivery FOB Falls Church, VA.
  97. UUNET reserves the right to change the rates by notifying you 30 days
  98. in advance of the effective date of the change.

  100. (6)     These Terms and Conditions supersede all previous
  101. representations, understandings or agreements and shall prevail
  102. notwithstanding any variance with terms and conditions of any order
  103. submitted. Use of AlterDial constitutes acceptance of these Terms and
  104. Conditions.

  106. THE NSFNET BACKBONE SERVICES ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY     June 1992
  107.  
  108. GENERAL PRINCIPLE:
  109.  
  110. (1)     NSFNET Backbone services are provided to support open research
  111. and education in and among US research and instructional institutions,
  112. plus research arms of for-profit firms when engaged in open scholarly
  113. communication and research. Use for other purposes is not acceptable.
  114.  
  115. SPECIFICALLY ACCEPTABLE USES:
  116.  
  117. (2) Communication with foreign researchers and educators in connection
  118. with research or instruction, as long as any network that the foreign
  119. user employs for such communication provides reciprocal access to US
  120. researchers and educators.
  121.  
  122. (3)     Communication and exchange for professional development, to
  123. maintain currency, or to debate issues in a field or subfield of
  124. knowledge.
  125.  
  126. (4)     Use for disciplinary-society, university-association,
  127. government-advisory, or standards activities related to the users
  128. research and instructional activities.
  129.  
  130. (5)     Use in applying for or administering grants or contracts for
  131. research or instruction, but not for other fundraising or public
  132. relations activities.
  133.  
  134. (6)     Any other administrative communications or activities in direct
  135. support of research and instruction.
  136.  
  137. (7)     Announcements of new products or services for use in research
  138. or instruction, but not advertising of any kind.
  139.  
  140. (8) Any traffic originating from a network of another member agency of
  141. the Federal Networking Council if the traffic meets the acceptable use
  142. policy of that agency.
  143.  
  144. (9)     Communication incidental to otherwise acceptable use, except
  145. for illegal or specifically unacceptable use.
  146.  
  147. UNACCEPTABLE USES:
  148.  
  149. (10)    Use for for-profit activities, unless covered by the General
  150. Principle or as a specifically acceptable use.
  151.  
  152. (11)    Extensive use for private or personal business.
  153.  
  154. This statement applies to use of the NSFNET Backbone only. NSF expects
  155. that connecting networks will formulate their own use policies. The NSF
  156. Division of Networking and Communications Research and Infrastructure
  157. will resolve any questions about this Policy or its interpretation.
