  9. To connect your PC to the Internet, you will need a Windows PC, Internet access 
  10. software, a modem, 
  11. and an account with an Internet service provider.  
  12. You already have two of those components, 
  13. a Windows PC and NetManage's software. 
  14. <p>
  15. You will also need a 
  16. standard dial-up modem.  The faster the modem runs, the better your 
  17. performance
  18. will be.  We recommend using a modem that is either 14.4 or 28.8 k bits per second
  19. but 9,600 bit per second modems will also work.

  25. The last item you need to complete the connection is an 
  26. account with an Internet service provider.  
  27. Service providers have a high speed link to the Internet 
  28. and can provide
  29. you with a phone
  30. number which will connect your PC to the Internet.  
  31. Your service 
  32. provider will also supply you with an e-mail address and they will 
  33. maintain 
  34. your electronic mailbox.

  36. To open an account with an Internet service provider, you can either 
  37. contact one yourself or
  38. use the Instant Internet application that came with your 
  39. NetManage
  40. software.  For details on how to use Instant Internet and the services it provides, see the 
  41. next section.

  47. Instant Internet
  48. provides you with an online list from which you
  49. can choose an Internet service provider, sign up with them, and 
  50. automatically configure your PC for Internet access in just a few minutes.  
  51. To use Instant Internet, double 
  52. click on the application icon.

  58. If you do not want to use Instant Internet because you already have 
  59. an Internet account,
  60. or you do not want to use any of the providers listed, you can use 
  61. the NetManage Custom application to obtain Internet access.
