  14. Hello.  My evil twin(tm) is a green-blind deuteranomal.
  15. Due to the presence of an annoying little recessive gene 
  16. on his X-chromosome, the spectral sensitivity of his 
  17. middle cones peak at a different wavelength of light 
  18. than a "normal" individual.  Thus, greens look different
  19. to him, or not like "green" at all...
  20.  
  21. He enjoys both hiking in the wilderness and psychadelics,
  22. especially simutaneously.  In the wilderness, it's often
  23. useful to be able to spot red objects amidst all the 
  24. green (e.g. reddish poison oak leaves in the green scrub 
  25. oak).  He has found that LSD enhances his perception of 
  26. colors, but does not greatly improve his differential
  27. perception of green.  While his hiking companions are 
  28. constantly pointing out red-tailed hawks, red manzanita
  29. bark, or the poison oak he's currently standing in, he
  30. still has problems picking them out of a green background.

  32. So when the iodopsin in one or more of the sets of cones 
  33. is abnormal, the signals being sent to the brain are
  34. the same, with or without psychadelics.  How the brain 
  35. on LSD recognizes these signals may be different, but he 
  36. hasn't found that the green perception improves.

  38. But he's continuing the therapy in hopes of improvement...

  40. As far as *visuals* are concerned, he hasn't noticed any
  41. really special greens that he doesn't see in real life.

  43. But here's a question:  does this hypothetical individual 
  44. who is colorblind (total achromat, which is rare) _dream_
  45. in color?  Would he/she know if the dreams were in "color"?
  46. Would he/she know if the hallucinations were in "color"?
