Looking for something in a sensitive singer-songwriter, are we, madam? Then step this way. I donΓÇÖt think youΓÇÖll be disappointed. Tom Baxter has emerged this year as a real contender in the area populated by the likes of Damien Rice and David Gray. He can do the yearning, anthemic Chris Martin thing (My Declaration) and the caught-up-in-the-rapture Jeff Buckley thing (DonΓÇÖt Let Go). He can also put together elegantly structured songs such as This Boy and Under the Thumb, which call to mind Tom McRae. One word of warning: donΓÇÖt open up the cover booklet: the extremely silly hand-drawn lyrics could put you right off.
