CARD MATCH is a concentration type game. You may play it on a minimal IBM
compatible computer. A CGA adapter is sufficient to have a color display.
This is a free game. You can show your appreciation by ordering other Castle
Oaks products.
You have a choice of two different card decks to use. The first is a standard
52 card deck of playing cards. The second is a 48 card deck which contains
four each of three different shapes (+, =, rectangle) in four different colors
(blue, green, red, and yellow.) The object of the game is to match cards in
pairs until all cards have been matched. You are given a choice of three
levels of play.
1. You can play such that the only requirement is that each pair of cards are
the same color (either black or red in the standard deck and blue, green, red
or yellow in the non-standard deck.)
2. You can play such that each card of a pair has the same value (e.g. A&A,
2&2, etc.) or same shape (e.g. +&+, =&=, etc.)
3. The highest level of play is that each card of a pair has the same color
and same value or shape.
In addition, you are given the options of playing the game alone or playing it
against an opponent. If you play alone, you should attempt to match 26 (or 24)
pairs in the fewest possible tries. If you play against an opponent both your
score and the opponent's score will be displayed. The winner is the one who
gets the most matches. (It is possible for a losing player to have a better
percentage score than the winning player.)
If you have a Microsoft mouse, you can use it to position the mouse cursor and
select a card by pressing the left mouse button. This will cause the card to
turn over and display the face of the card. You may also position the charac-
ter cursor using the cursor keys and then turn the card by pressing ENTER.
(Note, two cursors are displayed, the mouse cursor and the character cursor.)
If there are two players, it may be convenient for one player to use the mouse
and the other player to use the cursor keys.
When you turn over a second card, if it matches the first card, it will remain
exposed; if it does not match the first card, it is exposed for about one
second and then both cards are turned so that the backs show. A prompt appears
in the lower left corner of the screen to advise you to pick the first card
and then the second card. Also, the current player's name is displayed at the
beginning of the 24th line on the screen. In the solitaire version, only your
name will appear. When there are two players, the first player is allowed to
play until he fails to make a match. Then the computer beeps twice and the
name of the second player appears. He gets to play until he makes a mis-match
and then the computer beeps once and the first player's name appears.
After all pairs have been found, the cards will remain on the screen, exposed,
for about two seconds. The screen will then clear and the score(s) will be
shown. You may then elect to play again or terminate the program. If at any
time you wish to abort a game, you may press the ESCape key. The score(s) to
that point will be shown and you can elect to play again or not.
